Redarc because I already had one from my previous JTW. On my Rubicon I decided to mount it in a place where it is almost out of sight but where I can still reach it and see the numbers.

I had the curt echo, was simple but I got sway and the app wasn't open. Switched to Redarc. It's always there and ready, this is mandatory for me now.

I have a Curt Echo. Works well enough for me as I tow less than a handful of times a year plus my trailer fully loaded is around 2k lbs. I can see the neeed of a wired system if I was dragging a 4k lbs plus trailer. And yes, it sucks that the tow package does not come with a controller. Interestingly enough, our new '24 Sequoia came with the full suite of towing accessories including tow mode, camera and controller. I guess it should, with a tow rating of 9.5k lbs.

Redarc. You can get a kit to make it pretty factory looking. But a couple of notes:

* The cigarette lighter is extremely hard to remove. You can buy a cigarette lighter removal tool on Amazon for a few bucks that will save you a lot of headache.

* At least as of ~18 months ago, the kit has the words "Trailer Brake" misaligned. They will read horizontally rather than vertically if you just slap it in as is. I *did* slap it in as is and I'm fine with it, looks sharp. But if you want it to read properly, you need to trim a piece to fit in to a slot. It will make more sense if you're looking at it.

Regardless of what's recommend I would NEVER go wireless with something so critical. I see some people have already had issues with them that posted in this thread. Sure you may only haul every once in a while but all it takes is one bad connection to have a bad day or worse. My two cents.

Cant beat the curt wireless controller for simplicity. Just plugs onto your 7 pin plug, no installation required. Easy to set up and use with a smartphone.
I also like it because I can swap it between the Gladiator and the Wrangler 4xe anytime depending what I'm pulling.

The Curt wireless still always works on it's last configured setting if it's disconnected from your bluetooth phone. The only reason why you might need the phone connected is to configure the settings or if you want to activate the brakes manually from the phone. Otherwise, it's been great for pulling a 5000lbs travel trailer on the Gladiator.

Whatever you get ,place it where the passenger can also reach it, the factory controller is in a great spot for that so is the red arc installed next to power outlet. We lived through a sway incident on a upstate NY down hill in a Tahoe towing a 20’ Whaler and loaded up for a trip, I could not take my hands off the wheel and were swaying across two lanes with a trucker behind us following blocking both lanes to the bottom. Trucker and I had a long talk with him telling me I did right riding it down and not hitting the brakes, there was not a dry piece of clothing on me!
Whaler then had hydraulic disks installed, Tahoe had, controller and airbags, lesson learned , BUT remember you might not be able to reach down or even let go of the wheel to hit that button.
Things happen quick, I am amazed I have lived as long as I have!…..Jack

I'm an MOE+ kind of guy so I went with the MOPAR controller. (which should be standard fucking equipment with tow packages?!?)
Install sucked for my back but I haven't missed my 12VDC outlet.
Correct. It is just plain cheap ass to sell a vehicle with tow package or any vehicle for that matter rated to tow and not have a brake controller included. I love my JTR but this may be my last Jeep. Too freaking expensive, too many cheezy issues, and worthless dealers. I miss my 2020 Colorado ZR2 in that regard. Great vehicle but not as capable offroad, drove like a sports car and zero issues with it. Came loaded with everything I needed to tow my boat. Dealers were much more accommodating when warranty service was needed. Jeep is killing themselves with high prices, poor quality and worthless dealers.

I also went with the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Electric Brake Controller and have no complaints. I opted to relocate the 12V Aux plug to the passenger side of the dash which I now use primarily to charge my phone. Before and after pics are attached.

At the time (Apr-21) Redarc seemed to have the best reviews with better capabilities and more installation options due to its small size. Redarc has both Proportional (inertia-based) Activation and Time-Delay settings PLUS a push button manual trailer brake override for emergency braking if needed. Again, I did this in Apr-2021 so not sure whats changed since then, but I had these comments in my notes about the Mopar and Curt options:

Mopar - gave me too many concerns about installation and harness issues so decided against it

Curt Spectrum - looked very nice but only allowed for manual override when controller was set to it's highest setting (10)

Hope this helps!
