Still very much "in progress", I have a proof-of-concept door, but haven't figured out the latch. Zip-ties hold it closed for now, but I don't think that's viable long term ;).

And running boards, easy as could be - except for the brackets. Hoping to find something off-the-shelf, but may have to have them fabricated; I don't weld :( Someday, maybe a flatbed with stake-sides, but that is just a daydream now.

Thinking dark red mahogany 3/8 panels & lumberyard 1x4 running boards, with light-colored (maple?) frames. Do I need a "build" thread?

I can hear the dualing banjos.

Seriously. Do it. Finish it. Take pictures. It'll be one of a kind.

As for the OP's "buying a base model without mods." I think I would. I love the looks and SFA.
No offense to those base model owners, but the tiny wheels and tires are not to my liking.

My friends still give me crap over the 'tiny" 33s on my Mojave. But I like it just the way it is.
In a couple years I'll go 35s or 37s. But with gas prices the way they are with the the current administration, I'll wear out the factory 33s first.

Haha only jeep people seem to give me grief over the Rubi take offs on my JT. For them its man you didn't go 37's which is never in the plans anyhow. The non jeep folk all think the truck looks super nice with the Rubi take offs and rims. I would still have driven this thing all over on the stock tires if that is all I could afford. At least I could take the top and doors off

A bone stock one with small wheels/tired and I would have to keep it stock? I would pass on the deal and purchase something else. In stock form I find the gladiator uninspiring but that quickly changes with just a little bit of work.

Agree. Thought they looked a little goofy first time I saw one. But then add a lift and tires and it's a whole different truck. I think you take away half of the appeal of a Jeep if you can not mod it. To answer the question, don't think I'm a hard no, but it may take a little more thought.

I bought a Sport in Gobi with MaxTow, automatic, slush mats, Deep tint windows, and a black 3-piece hard top. Exactly the way I wanted it. I can crank windows and manually lock doors. I did put Goodrich KO2 tires and Fab rock sliders on it during the first 200 miles. It is hard to find a basic vehicle on the lot. I also like Rams, every damn Power Wagon on the lot has a sunroof. I have not used a sunroof since 1982.

You could probably do the same poll but just replace stock JT with Man Bun Top and you will get the same response. You have the image issue crowd who will say no way and the others who don't give a damned will say bring it on.

My previous truck was a work truck trim Silverado, so yes I could do it again.

I was going to get a Sport S or a Willys but I ended up with an 80th anniversary edition.

I want to learn the limits of the stock setup before I do anything, and when I do, it will be mostly Rubicon take offs because they are cheap and plentiful, already got take off rock rails and used them.

The one thing I did not want but ended up enjoying was the heated seats/wheel.

The one thing "Base" I wish it did have was vinyl floors, but Jeep only sells it with a carpet.

It's a Jeep, it gets dirty quickly, carpet????
Same here! I loved that truck. NOTHING broke in 10 years of ownership. Radio only so just used a transmitter for my tunes and I cruised. Only option I wish it had was cruise control. Right calf and shin got awfully sore on long interstate drives.

Probably not. I will be honest...I thought the truck was pretty ugly when it first came out. When I revisited the Gladiator about a year later, the modified examples were trickling out. The mod scene helped inspire my decision to pick up the JTR.

For a long time, I have bought with the thinking that I could buy a less-optioned vehicle now, or wait 1-3 years and buy a more heavily-optioned version. Invariably, I chose and was happy with the base model, or close to it.

Out of curiosity, why didn’t you just order what you wanted?
This was a year ago no production, visited five dealers in two states to buy the one I have.

I did. Didn't need all the bells and whistles. Haven't had a lick of trouble with it either.
