My current ride is a 2014 Ram 1500 Ecodiesel (my Gladiator is on order). I have 140,000+ miles on it and it has been great, until the SW change to rectify the NoX emissions conflict with NHSA/EPA. I received $3K for compensation. The millage went down and the cold engine turbo lag increased. The issue with diesels is the EGR system to control NoX emissions. They tend to reduce the power and efficiency along with causing soot buildup in the intakes. I figure they have fixed those issues 3 generations later. I would have spec'd my Gladiator with the Ecodiesel again if it didn't reduce the tow rating because of the smaller radiator and cooling capacity of the Jeep front end.

I do however run 2 stroke (1 oz per gallon) in all my 24V Cummins trucks.
I also used the TCW3/2-stroke oil in my Duramax, but only 1/2 oz per gallon. Made a big difference.

Yes sir! My friends with the common rail Cummins trucks and deleted Dmax and Powerstrokes run the same 2-stroke oil (Walmart brand) and same dosage as you. The problematic VP44 on the 24V needs a little more love.

The current Ecodiesel pulls air for the EGR from behind the SCR for whatever that is worth. I would love to be able to turn off EGR but am having little luck finding a company that supports the modification.

Didn't realize there was an issue with the Ecodiesel. Mine has been fine for the last 22k miles running a Banks tuner on level 6 and turning 37s. I have zero complaints other than that I wish I could hear the exhaust.

People seem to forget Rams exist
I was going to say the same thing.

Though it seems they've ironed out a lot of the bugs with this 3rd gen engine. Not nearly as high a rate of bottom end failures. And I believe they went back to the CP3 fuel pump.

Jeep has a nasty habit of using its faithful to function-test its engines.

Is 2023 finally the year the Ecodiesel has ironed out its defects?

i want to get an Ecodiesel, I really do, not the reliability of the Duramax tempts me away from the Jeep fold….
So what is scaring you EXACTLY, with the current gen (2022 & newer) JTD ?

Thanks for all your input! I definitely feel better. I think a 2023 Rubicon diesel in Earl is in my near future.

I’m sad about the Gobi being discontinued. I’m hoping the Earl doesn’t look so blue in real life.

thanks again all!!!
Earl is great... don't worry about the Gobi not being in the line-up.... now you wont be one of those guys that have to say "Gobi" in front of every sentence when mentioning their Gladiator.... lol.

50K trouble-free miles on my JL. Like it so much I got a JT with the diesel. I will share this, before I put a set of 37' BFG KO2's on the JT I got a set of 4.10 gears to swap in. After using a Taser to set the tire size I decided to leave the gears alone. It pulls just fine and goes into 8th right at 55 mph all while getting consistent low to mid 20's mpg.
Yeah I see no issue after getting the Taser with 37" tires. Once I got the tire pressure dialed in its 75 MPH easy cruising on the highway. I just drove from MO to RI, lots of bombing down dirt roads and beach driving, drove it down the coast to the Carolinas and back home to MO. Kid seat in the back, doors and top off on the beach. Piled so full of stuff. This is the best Jeep I've owned by far. I have close to 35,000 miles on it mainly problem free. I had a DEF issue that ended up just needing an update and it fixed it. I have driven a few of the gas engines and I wouldn't trade it even if it had some issues.

however, I think a throttle commander would be nice off the line. I have 37" Milestar Patagonia's, a full size spare, a smart cap topper, and usually quite a bit of stuff in the back. It could use a little more off the line, but again it handles great and I'm not complaining.

15k on ours. Other than a software update to fix a “fake” DEF sensor alert it’s been perfect.
