We have a 2022 jeep gladiator overland. I believe its towing capacity is 4500lbs. We are looking at boats and they are ranging in weight from 3000-4000 lbs total. Should we be looking smaller or is this a safe weight range? We will need to tow it twice a year just over 100 miles from our home to our beach place.

If you truly will only be trailering 2 times a year, I would feel comfortable with being at the high end of the trucks rating.
Take your time, drive very conservatively.
Take a separate vehicle or 2 trips if you also have lots of stuff to bring too.

I also used to trailer a 24' sailboat to/from the harbor twice a year with a Suzuki Samurai, so I may not be the best person to offer advise.

Okay, first off, your Overland...if it has the 8sp Auto and tow package...has a towing capacity of 6,000 lbs. The range of boat weights you're looking at will easily be handled by it.

Way back when, I had a '93 and subsequent '96 Grand Cherokee, both with the I-6, NO factory trailer package (hitch was a U-Haul add on) that I towed a 1985 21.5' Larson DC215 (it had a 350 cu.in. V-8 in it) that was 5,000 lbs on the trailer, then add in the weight of the dual axle trailer and neither Grand Cherokee had an issue towing it. I also had (in between the Grands) a '96 RAM 4x4 Extra cab with the 5.2L V-8 in it and it had all sorts of problems pulling that boat. One trip from Southern MA to Lake Winnepesaukee and back blew the trans in the RAM. In my Jeeps, I could walk the boat out of the water in 2H. I had to go to 4Lo in the RAM to get that boat up any ramp.

You should be fine looking in the range you're looking in.

Get a brake controller, keep distance and be patient. You should be fine. I towed mine in that range from Vegas to Houston and back two winters ago.

Post window sticker and we'll tell you the tow cap. 4500, 6000, and 6500 are possibilities.

Reminds me of the overpowered F13 we had. It was a blast flying past the big boy boats and watching their jaws drop.

A guy I worked with years ago had one. It was a neat little boat. Fast for it's size.

That’s a 19ft’r, I’d be happy pulling the new 22ft’r but after that the beam will be too wide for me to see anything behind me even if I ran extended mirrors. The Gladiator is just too narrow to tow the larger boats on the regular.

Can’t wait for boat season. ?

Good luck ?

I tow a 3000# boat on a double axle trailer that probably weighs 1200#. I have electric brakes (trailer does not get wet as boat is gantry launched.) I keep it at 50mph or less on the highway as I get a ton of windage it’s 26ft long and close to 11ft high. Truck tows decently not a lot of power on takeoff, but I have the 6spd. It stops fine even if the brakes are turned way down. I did about 260 miles in towing this year between maintenance and race events. Assuming you get a trailer in good condition and take it slow I wouldn’t worry about it.

I can’t speak to having that much weight on a wet boat ramp however.

I am more concerned about hitting expansion joints/potholes and damaging the boat by bouncing it on the trailer or hitting tree branches than anything to do with the truck. I avoid trailering it anywhere I don’t need to in order to protect the boat. Storing it at the beach place not an option?
