I actually just got off the phone with Jeep and had a case number started.

From what the lady told me, it sounds like they will cover parts for an aftermarket clutch, (and labor if it's done at a jeep dealer).

I'm going to call my nearby dealer and see if that jives. And when they likely tell me that it will take forever to actually get scheduled to get the install done, I'm going to call Jeep again and will argue profusely that the labor needs to be covered regardless (I'm not paying for someone else's screwup)

Here here. This is crazy. I’m not asking them to buy a new clutch. they are going to drop the trans to remove the clutch anyways, all I’m asking for is the tech to use the box I provide vs the box that hasn’t been approved, designed or thought of yet by the Jeep engineers.

Yeah exactly.

Got off the phone with the dealer. Understandably (to some extent), they want written approval from Jeep before they would install an aftermarket clutch.

I called Jeep again, asking for this approval to give the dealer. 3 calls later, I got hung up on twice after getting a blanket statement that aftermarket parts can't be used. The 3rd guy at least sent me some email info stating how to get reimbursed for the parts if using a non-Jeep shop.

It's not acceptable for the customer to pay for Jeep's design mistake (either monetarily or through safety or getting stranded waiting for a "remedy"). Getting someone at Jeep to acknowledge this shouldn't be this difficult.

Ok rant over.

Look at all the aftermarket parts they already call their own - Sunrider, gorilla glass, tonneau cover, shocks,, etc, etc… what is holding them up on reviewing all the available aftermarket clutch’s and picking one that works?

I called 4 dealers in my area none were willing to do an aftermarket, which I kind of understand.

Interestling I just today got my paper letter though I already got the notice in the app. The paper letter specifically says "if you have already paid for a repair related to this problem submit reimbursement". So it was phrased more along the lines if you encounter a failure before the recall parts arrive you might get reimbursed instead of taking proactive action. that's safe, thanks jeep.

I called my local dealer and they told me it would take 7 hours at a min to do the clutch swap and they would need it for a couple of days. I also called Jeep and asked about the reimbursement portion for at least the labor. They stated that I would have to pay out of pocket and then submit the form through the reimbursement webpage.

that isn’t a guarantee, but I got a case number and I have the time slot for the clutch replacement. The funny part is they told me that when I get the NEXT notification stating that the clutch remedy is ready, I would still have to go back to a dealership and have them remove that recall from the vin. ? I can just see that conversation “we see there is a recall for the clutch, we will get you scheduled ASAP!”

Time will tell.

Just to make sure I understand, your local dealer agreed to install an aftermarket clutch? (with you paying the full cost up front at least)

Yes. I think they view it as an upgrade/ standardish work. It wouldn’t be in association with the recall.

Ok thanks for that info. I'm going to ask around a few other dealers.

Has anyone successfully received a reimbursement for replacing their clutch yet?
Good question, I keep seeing all these "submit for reimbursement" but have not yet seen a successful reimbursement for an aftermarket clutch. I bought my MT knowing it was not the ideal set up from the factory and knew I would eventually switch over to Centerforce or other aftermarket clutch. I am having no issues from mine at the moment and want to wait a little longer to see first, what the "fix" this time is going to be and then second, if anyone is receiving any reimbursement at all. At this point I would be happy with them covering labor but I guess we will have to wait and see.

Same here. At 45K clutch is excellent. Not so with the goofy dual mass flywheel though. It takes careful clutch control to avoid stall like when creeping over rocks and when that clutch was new it was very difficult which is likely why people slip it so much.

I'm on the coast and don't do any rock crawling but do spend a lot of time in beach sand. I will say the first time I went out after moving from the Tacoma to the Jeep, I was not happy with the MT or rather the clutch. Like said before was planning to replace the clutch anyway when I bought it but now will wait to see if I can get any reimbursement. I always planned to just pay for the changeover obviously but if I can get a few bucks out of it, I'll wait.

So far, I have not had any over heating issues or weaker than the normal clutch operation. I do tow a boat and during hunting season a trailer with an ATV and at times hundreds of pounds of corn. Again no issues getting through mud holes and such with the trailer attached. However, like many have said, in reverse with any load at all is just stupid.

Did you try 4-low? The clutch is subpar for sure, but the stock gearing is also way too tall which just magnifies its shortcomings. I mostly don't mind the clutch in any application. It's not good, but the lightness is a nice change from the heavy clutches I'm used to.
