What's the largest and or best main battery I can get / fit in the Gladiator? Going to delete the aux in the process. I hear you can remove a block off plate to fit a bigger one.

This should be a fun thread.
I went with duralast platinum agm
Small size 400
Large size H7/94R

are there better out there? Sure, but in a year? Or two? Or whatever before the warranty runs out…. I don’t want to be in the middle of no where waiting for a special order battery to get sent to me.
Autozone is everywhere and their warranty process is cake.
???

I was happy with the full river FT series in the Genesis system and the DC series in the bed, so I put a 94R FR FT battery in and have been happy so far - its only been in there for a month or so so well see if it survived the -45 degree temps last week.

Sooo, H7 (94R) is the way to go.

Looking at X2Power, Oddysey or an Optima Red Top maybe?

If I want to keep my auto stop start i assume a red top would be better than a yellow?

If you want to keep ESS active, I'd recommend keeping the AUX battery in place. We've seen in other threads where the voltage drop from running the system off only the main has the potential to throw error codes.

I cant make up for it with a better main battery? Today on the freeway I lost power steering and after reading a bunch of threads people seem to think it could be battery related in the cold temps, trying to simplify my setup.

I mean you could, but one of the reasons they implemented the 2 battery setup was to avoid voltage drops being experienced in the single setup. Most evidence points to the running electronics being sensitive to these drops during ESS restarts, and perhaps overly-so. No doubt the AUX is a band-aid for the larger problem, but that also doesn't mean you can get rid of the AUX without reintroducing the risk of seeing the problem it was meant to mitigate. Disabling ESS gets rid of that risk.

My advice has always been that if you remove the AUX, stop using ESS as well. It's the safest combination.

Makes sense, appreciate it. I'll probably stop using ESS, hood plunger and fuse 42 for that right?

Fuse 42 and just press the button on the dash (or use an eliminator, which would be your best bet). Hood plunger will give you a warning light on the dash.

The largest that will fit is a 94R. Since they are paralleled together, removing the Aux battery actually reduces your capacity.

My main battery lasted three years. I looked at what was available and went with ACDelco.

AC Delco Battery Asm - 94RAGM https://a.co/d/2OEZJA0

My Aux battery lasted six months longer than the Main. There are more options available now. This is what I would buy.

ACDelco Gold AUX14-200 36 Month Warranty Auxiliary AGM 200 CCA Battery https://a.co/d/7NTrxGY

There is a forum sponsor that produces the SmartStartStop Eliminator. I would suggest one of those to control ESS. No fuse to pull, no cables to disconnect, and no warranty issues from modifying the electrical system.

I have had the AC Delco 94r in my hemi for 2 years now. Killed it twice, came right back no issues. Great value. My other good batteries have been the silver box platinums. Duralast I think.

^^^^Though the batteries are a different size, one may be able to extrapolate quality and performance differences between brands in this video.
