It’s a good idea to place rags around the base of the oil filter cap to catch the dribbles. Before pulling off the filter cap from the threads, just undo it and let the air in but leave the cap in place to drain a few min while you work underneath. By the time you’re ready to pull the cap out, all the oil would be long drained back to not the engine and there won’t be any mess.

Once the new filter is in place and cap torqued down, spray brake cleaner around the base to clean up the oil that drained down the sides and made that mess.

The diesel filter is on the drivers side of the motor. And it's a bit buried.

The ridge you have highlighted does sit flush with housing. I will try and provide picture tomorrow.
I got it figured out... thanks though. ?

Update....

I didn't have the filter tightened enough... there was a gap between the top ridge of the oil filter and the oil filter housing base of about 1/4. This must have caused a small amount of oil to run down and cause what I thought was a leak.

Today I cleaned the area were I thought it was leaking thoroughly, removed the filter and applied a small amount of high-temp grease around the threads of the filter and the o'ring... this time the filter went on with ease... no binding and no scary creaking noises... lol. I was easily able to bottom out the filter housing to the oil filter ridge... I did try to torque it , but it seemed way to tight and I wasn't feeling safe to keep going until my HF 5-80lb torque wrench clicked... so I tighten it about a quarter to one half turn passed when it felt good-n-tight... I'm thinking about buying a digital torque wrench or a digital adapter to reseat and torque it... I just don't trust the HF wrench.
Looking at ones like this (thoughts on these ?)

Its about $40 and torques between 6-60lbs
Or

It's quite a bit more expensive, $170 and torques between 5 - 100lbs.

Good news, after test driving, previous leaking area... was still clean, so no leak.

Oil pressures appeared normal... no check lights.
The only concerns I have are 1. eventually retorquing the filter properly and 2. previous to the oil change at idle, my oil pressure was a steady 19psi... now it is fluctuating between 17 & 20psi... I'm not sure this is a problem, but it never fluctuated before. (maybe someone can confirm what their resting psi is on a well warmed engine). See video.

If you planning on doing your own wrenching. I recommend getting minimum of 3 torque wrenches. A 0-50, 30-150 and a 50-250 wrenches. Keeps in mind that these clickers aren't accurate at their low and high settings. Also need a 1/4" in inch lb if you're doing gearing or some head works.

I have several, but this diesel oil filter is at an odd angle and the 5-80lbs Ratchet Driver torque wrench seemed difficult to use... I feel like I was @18lbs but no click... there is a proper way to hold and use this style torque wrench in order for it to be accurate... thats why I was considering a digital... specifically for the oil filter... the adapter seems like it would work well, I just do not have any real word experience with them.

Great recommendations though ! ?

Update #2

I picked up a 3/8" digital torque wrench adapter. Like this:
Jeep Gladiator Low oil pressure warning after oil change. Screenshot_20231106_210613_Chrom

https://www.harborfreight.com/38-in-drive-59-59-ft-lb-digital-torque-adapter-58705.html

I will say, if this adapter is correct , which I think it should be since 18.4 ft-lbs is close to its sweet spot (5.9 - 59.9 ft-lbs torque range)... I had the oil filter over tightened... not by much, but definitely more the the 18.4 ft-lbs thats called for. Actually, the correct torque isn't much passed the filter stopping once it bottoms out on the base of the filter housing and the support ridge of the oil filter. Maybe a 1/4 turn...

*IS THIS WHAT YOU OTHER DIESEL OWNERS that have done your own oil change experienced ?

It did raise resting/idle oil pressure by a point or so... but it still bounces between 18-20 psi , instead of a solid 19 psi like before.

*CAN SOMEONE PLEASE CHECK WHERE THIER RESTING/IDLE PSI IS ? (Particularly someone that's changed their own oil filter, if you remember your before, that would be great also).

The leak didn't return, so definitely run off from the oil fill or initial under torqued filter. ?

Since I plan on keeping my JTRD for the long haul, I also invested in a stand alone torque socket. It is a non- adjustable two stage factory set socket. The first stage is set @ 25nm and the second stage @ 30nm. This is perfect for our use.

This is it:

Now if I could only get some help with my Scangauge III... ha ha ha

That is perfectly normal and is right where mine sits. I've noticed slightly more fluctuation with Pennzoil Plat Euro vs Motul for example when fresh. After it breaks down a little it's all the same.

Help! Same issue. Low Oil Pressure light right after oil change. Filters kit from Doc's Diesel. Oil is 5w40 Amsoil Full Syn European FS and meets API SN & SM.

Filter torque was a bit awkward using a mechanical click wrench(new) at the very low end ~19ft/lb.

Have you used this oil previously for this JT? I have had this same low oil pressure after doing my own changes. Once was from an over torqued filter and the other was after using a non MS-12991 syn oil. I looked up the Amsoil data sheet and I didn't see MS-12991 spec listed. This engine is so finicky who really knows. I attached the data sheet

New vehicle for me. Bought in Dec. 2023. First oil change. Man, I hope I didn't f'it up. I've driven it twice since changing the oil. Both times, start fine, runs fine. Both times were short trips(about 6mi. to store). On the return home, both times low oil pressure warning.

Interesting. I would think that if viscosity grade was the same between the oils used, oil pressure would not be that much different regardless if one oil lacked manufacture spec.
