Side Steps that can be welded or mounted on existing OEM rock rails (Rubicon here).

Hi all

Still in honeymoon with my oil burner but already getting "complaints" from my wife and mom (elderly). My now-traded Ford Ranger had the side steps and it was super handy for shorter people (mind ya, I never call my wife "short"..lol). I have a friend who does fabrication and he said if I can get some steel side steps, he can possibly weld it directly on the existing rock rails.

I've been scouring Amazon but pretty much all are full replacements ....I do like the oem rock slider as it feels super sturdy. Does this mean I'm looking at a complete swap (remove rock sliders..mount the new ones with the side steps)?

Maybe consider the M.O.R.E Hide-a-step? I have them and they stay nicely tucked out of the way unless you need them. No electricity or wires, just push them down with your foot and they snap back up once your foot leaves the step: https://mountainoffroad.com/collections/hide-a-step

On my old JKR, I welded a horseshoe onto the OEM rock rail on each side for use as a step. Cost was under $10.

I went with @ACE Engineering rock rails. They work with factory sliders.

These look pretty nice. A bit pricey to do all four doors but the spring action of it is nice.

I welded my own schedule 40 tubing to the stock rails, then painted them and threw some skateboard grip tape on top so nobody falls off in wet weather. They have served their purpose thus far after a couple beatings on the trails.
