I Have had a Jeep since I was 18 I'm 33 now and as much as I love them and the community I think I am finally past that point of dealing with the issues and ready to move on. Since way back with my TJ I have always dealt with constant death wobble problems, tried plenty of different shops, and it was never solved. In 2021 I moved to my gladiator and a year later I was having the same issues, Finally fixed it with a quality lift but it just came back new tires, 2.5-ton steering, and new ball joints etc, always came back after constantly throwing money at it. Now last Saturday I was on the Highway, and the Jeep threw a bunch of electrical warnings and went into limp mode, I was able to counter it by switching into manual mode but it stopped letting me shift as soon as I hit an incline. I made it home and booked a service appointment first thing Monday.

They tell me it throws a code P00AF-00 which has to do with the Turbo assembly so I assume It is under the 100k powertrain warranty and so does my service guy. He calls me back and says it keeps telling him the turbos not covered but he will keep looking into it. He called me back today and said it is because the turbo falls under the federal emissions warranty but not the 80k one they advertise, the 70k warranty that I didn't even know existed so since Im at 72k guess I'm shit out of luck and they say it will cost 5k to fix.

After today I think I'm just done with the issues, I'm not forking over 5k for this. so think I may just go trade the jeep in ASAP for something else, don't know if I'll get in a Steliantis vehicle again at least for a while.

Sorry for the rant. Frustrated about the whole situation just wanted to get it out with folks who delt with the same.

I wanted to respond with "you should try Jeep girls.... they're a lot more fun!", but after reading your post, dammit man, I feel bad for you. ☹. Personally I just don't trust the longevity of turbo anything. Most turbo engines start nearing that dreaded rebuild by the ~100k mile marker, and $5k seems to be the figure I hear thrown around the most for that sort of service. I'd at least pursue getting it covered under warranty. Remember... it's the squeaky wheel that gets the grease.

Makes me wonder what the 100k is going to cover . Figure they throw it out there and all proud and shit about 5yr/100k but seems all the fine print make that warranty about useless . The part # for the turbo seems to be 6860217AA and about $750 from mopar warehouse direct . What kind of Job is it to change ?

My guess is the book calls for the cab coming off.

Mechanics used to get paid by the book, and therefore are motivated to find ways to get things done faster than the book. Can they be replaced through the fender liners?

edit : that could be a really dumb question, I haven’t seen where they are located, and I’m assuming that they’re near the exhaust manifold, and I was envisioning the V6 gasser when I typed that. Are we talking about something that’s squirreled away between the engine and firewall, in a super hard to get to spot?

Do you have mechanical breakdown coverage through your auto insurance? They may cover this. It supposedly works like an extended warranty. When I bought my truck this either got added automatically, or I added it and didn't think about it again. It's easy to forget about, but it may be an option.

The P00AF-00 fault codes means the electronic actuator that controls the variable geometry portion of the turbo is not moving as it should be or not in the time period it should be doing so. This can be either due to a physical obstruction or binding of the actuator linkage, a faulty actuator, or an open/high resistance in either the control or ground circuits between the PCM and actuator. Hopefully they actually did some solid troubleshooting instead of just shotgunning the turbo.

The emissions part of your warranty covers the entire turbocharger assembly, yes, but if you read your warranty booklet you'll see that the turbocharger housing and all internal parts are covered by the 5yr/100k mile powertrain warranty. If the linkage is binding due to an internal turbo part then this should be covered under warranty. If it is not due to an internal part of the turbo then IMO at least part of the cost should be covered since it doesn't appear that the actuator is available as a separate part -- it only comes with the turbo (68602174AA) which incidentally is an $814 part.

Turbo is located in the middle toward the firewall due to it being a single turbo v6. They didn't engineered with the home mechanic in mind, cab comes off.

If it was me, I would look into the wiring a little deeper. Maybe find another shop to look at it. I like the idea that maybe it could still be covered under the powertrain warranty. You just may have to point it out to the service manager.

None of this will make you feel any better about Jeep, but at least you could walk away knowing what the problem was and perhaps the satisfaction of having the dealer repair it under the warranty.

As DylanM stated, it sounds like it should be covered. Also, try a different service center. Sounds like they don’t want to do the work.

your advisor is wrong.
Out of curiosity what oil have you been running and do you allow for cool down before shut off?
