Looking at MOTUL, the only MS-12991 oil they show is the "8100 X-clean (C3 SAPS) X-Clean Gen 2 does not show MS-12991 spec.
The MS-12991 spec isn't a factor that many of us are looking at. Instead, we are looking at the data and making decisions on what is best for the engine and/or what is best for our application.

If warranty is a concern, then obviously folks need to stick with MS-12991 approved oil.

Even though Pennzoil tests show best performance, does that outweigh the fact that is twice the SAPS level as the MOTUL?
Pennzoil Platinum doesn't rank in the top 3 oils for best performance, but it's FCA approved.

Personally, I think most low-ash (emissions approved) oils are going to be fine in the scheme of things. Yes, some are better than others, but generally speaking, we are not seeing a major issues with DPF clogging.

There are stock EcoDiesels out there still running the factory DPF at 300,000+ miles.

That is Lake Speed. He's one of the tribologists that I was referring to. 👍

Yes I started watching his channel a few years ago when he started it. He has replied on my comments which is nice to see when possible. I have learned a lot from and William on the forums and groups.

Lake, William, and Bryce have all been very helpful to the EcoDiesel community. The engine builders (Enrique, Abram, and Michael) have also been super helpful. The rest of us are just collecting data while the experts analyze it.

I hate to ask this question again when I'm sure it's buried in this thread multiple times, and I've read this thread multiple times, but what kind of oil change interval are people looking at with the AFL MS? Are we talking 8k miles? Just wondering when I should plan my first change as a baseline.

.

You should be able to go the full 10,000-mile interval with AFL MS. The oil doesn't shear like some of the other oils.

William was talking about this that he sees oxidization at 10k. He said 7500 miles was the max best.

!0,000 miles is too much. Especially for the first oil change.

Yes, but William also changes his coolant annually. ;)

There are several EcoDiesel owners running AFL MS at 10,000-mile intervals with good UOA results.

Some people have reported a 'low engine oil' warning on the first 10,000-mile interval. The Gen 3 engine likes to drink oil during the break-in. Outside of that, I've seen some really good UOA with the factory fill. I wish I knew what oil the factory used because it holds up surprisingly well.

I just talked to William. He agrees that the AFL MS would be okay for 10,000-mile intervals, however, he suggested that you start sampling between 7,000 - 8,000 miles before extending it to 10,000.

Is the factory oil not the Mopar Pennzoil oil? I did my oil change at 795 miles to get the Wear metals out.

No, it's a different oil, but as far as I know, no one outside of VM Motori knows what they are using.

My guess would be some type of Shell Helix oil if they do the fill in Italy.
