The MS-12991 spec isn't a factor that many of us are looking at. Instead, we are looking at the data and making decisions on what is best for the engine and/or what is best for our application.Looking at MOTUL, the only MS-12991 oil they show is the "8100 X-clean (C3 SAPS) X-Clean Gen 2 does not show MS-12991 spec.
If warranty is a concern, then obviously folks need to stick with MS-12991 approved oil.
Pennzoil Platinum doesn't rank in the top 3 oils for best performance, but it's FCA approved.Even though Pennzoil tests show best performance, does that outweigh the fact that is twice the SAPS level as the MOTUL?
Personally, I think most low-ash (emissions approved) oils are going to be fine in the scheme of things. Yes, some are better than others, but generally speaking, we are not seeing a major issues with DPF clogging.
There are stock EcoDiesels out there still running the factory DPF at 300,000+ miles.
