I finally had my CP4 Fuel Pump replaced this week. Three weeks ahead of schedule.

When I brought it in, my truck was running and not throwing any codes, so they replaced the pump and the two steel lines that ran from the pump to the fuel rail. It took them about two hours to complete.

So far, there have been no issues, but I am smelling diesel fuel. My guess is it is on the top of the engine and has not burned off completely, as it is not leaking anywhere.

Here’s a new one. My registration renewal came in the mail today. It says I’m required to take it to a smog shop and have them test it (F you California). So I ran over and did that this morning. The guy was nice enough to tell me that since the recall is emissions related that the DMV will not issue new tags until the recall has been completed. Fabulous.

I called my local dealership that I’ve been on the ā€œlistā€ since god knows when, and he said yeah just bring it down we’ll take care of it. So I told him I’m available Wednesday morning. He said perfect, it’s first come first served so be here early. No appointment was made, he didn’t even ask for my information, no vin number, nothing. I said do you even have all the parts in stock? He said yes we do. I wasn’t gonna start a fight over the phone as to why I had not been notified of parts available when I’ve been waiting what seems like 8 months now. I have a bad feeling that tonight when I get home I will be removing my aftermarket skid plates for nothing. I’ll keep y’all posted.

I was wondering if this would eventually affect registration like the last reflash update

If it's anything like that last recall, you will need to send in the canary colored slip that proves the recall was done to DMV or they wont issue tags. I haven't had this recall done yet, but my dealer didn't supply the canary copy at pick up, so my wife had to drive back down there and rattle cages to get it done.

That’s good to know, I appreciate that. I still have a feeling the recall is not getting done on Wednesday. It’s got all bad written all over it.

Ya, I just reread your post about "No Appointment Required"........Almost sounds like they will just keep it till it's done? These idiots wonder why we have trust issues?

I have till Feb on mine, but better get it done sooner than later.

Just had mine done, called them a month ago to get on the schedule, dropped it off at 8am today, was done by 11am and back in my possession by noon.

It seems results vary dealer to dealer and dealer ability is the thing that gets people.

Did a quick look over with the hood up, looks about right, no major goofs like missing coolant, loose wires ect.. I'll dig deeper tonight when it's not 105 outside.

Don't forget to ask for your old pump back. Or at least see it., and the solenoid removed to see the screen on it.

i asked, the service guy noted it, then called me back and said the service manager will not release it.

I called the service manager and had a pleasant conversation about the subject, mentioned the FCA instructions don't require the pump back. He countered that since FCA is paying for the work and parts, they technically own the pump and i would have to contact customer support and have them to tell the dealer to release the pump to me. Also mentioned since the pump is flawed, it is in FCA interest to keep them out of general circulation. Basically the standard run around where, FCA and dealer are in the drivers seat and there is little i can do. So I moved on.

The reality is the pump goes into the scrap pile and everyone moves on. If you had a friend that worked at the dealer then the by the book facade could be skipped and you may end up with the pump. But in this day and age cover your ass mentality, if they don't know you, they aren't going to risk getting in trouble.

Walked right in, no appointment needed. It’s been up on the rack for 20 minutes already. They said they have been calling people and they’ve been getting told that other dealerships took care of the recall already. Mopar has been sending them fuel pumps with no names attached to them so they have some available. The service writer even remembered me although I didn’t give him my name on the phone the other day. I told them I would be waiting in the lobby so they got me up on the rack first.

The parts being replaced are fuel pump, return line, fuel filter, and o rings.

If anyone in SoCal is on the waiting list I’d suggest taking a trip to Redlands CJDR and having it done right away.

Odd, my invoice just lists pump, egr tube gasket, fuel line and label. Nothing about fuel filters

Came right from the service writer’s mouth. We’ll see if it’s in writing. I just replaced it a month ago but used a Doc’s filter and there’s a visible difference between the two so on my next change I’ll know if they actually did the work or not.

yeah, me to, i wrote mileage on the plastic flange with a paint pen, so we'll see what in there next time.

Oddly there was no mention of revised service protocols or a print out of the revised protocols. Some have reported as part of this campaign they now require you to change your fuel filter at every oil change interval and restrict bio fuels.

Yeah, the new paperwork tells you to change the fuel filter at every oil change now.

They never changed my fuel filter when they did my pump. But I did get my old pump.
