Not bash anybody, but to me its just another failure point.I had one in my JK days and never got another. How
ever I still like reading about this stuff.
A quality cutoff installed correctly will last forever. There is a lot of junk out there. I can see it being a turn off when a cutoff device fails. A $10 cutoff from Amazon may not be the best choice. I have installed the one that came with my Apex winch. It didn't seem to be of high quality. If it fails, I can move the leads to use it until I get around to replacing it. I do recommend using one, especially if you don't install a fuse.

That's how I originally hoped to do it, through the accessory switch panel. Trying to find a simple solenoid to do so, became a challenge.

My greatest concern, was not to have a hot wire going through the tight confines of the front bumper ...... Justin Case .....
I picked up a solenoid that was rated for 400 amps. I read the rest of the specifications later only to find that it was not rated for continuous duty. I swapped it out for the Warn interrupted kit.

Yeah I ended up just using the warn as well. Mostly because even if you buy that solenoid alone you'd still need to make or buy a short positive battery cable. Since cost of crimpers, wires, and boot covers would sort of come close to what they charge for that kit anyways. I just got that and threw the switch section out and wired it to my setup instead.

For just the switch end to the solenoid side of things? Small one, think I used a 5 since that was what the harness that came with the warn P-I kit used. I didn't use the wiring harness it came with, but used same size bladed fuse at the switch controller unit I have.

Thanks!! That is awesome and I'm going to copy you :)
You're welcome.
I added links to my install posts on the above post to show how I did it.
I reshaped the mounting bracket so it would fit under the VoSwitch when I installed that. I also repositioned the winch relay to the left.

Thanks.
A possibly crazy thought I have now is that with that extra hardware mounted there if it will cause unwanted heat to build up on the side of the battery. I'm sure opinions will vary on that subject.
My solution for that would be to mount a 3" 12v computer type cooling fan under the VoSwitch to create airflow in that cavity and connect it to the ignition lead behind the glovebox so it will run whenever the engine is turned on. I am thinking that if it was needed it would probably be on those hot rock crawling days when a lot of heat builds up under the hood.

I was wondering about any possible heat build-up

A disconnecting mean isn't required. Factory installed winches utilize conductor sizing as a short/overcurrent protections hence most comes with #2 conductor. Also a cost saving move as well as a high quality 500a contactor can cost up to $150.

Switched contactor is a convenient feature for me, as I'm using a single Aux switch and contactor to provides power to the winch and a #8 circuit SAE outlet at the front bumper to run a portable air compressor. I also charge my batteries via that same SAE port. With the Tire Fill Alert feature, i can also switch on/off my compressor from inside the cab, all without having to open the hood.

Old photo below is before i added an SAE oulet to the contactor. A waterproof 500A fuse block to a TE 500A (continuous) contactor, than to winch.
