This is how mine is setup. I did try switching them, but it didn’t seem to make a difference. I can grab my multimeter. What do you recommend I test?

trace where the 2 wires in question pin out on the serial cable plug. Use this info.

grey L-line should pin out on the top row 7th pin counting from left to right.
Brown GPT1 pins out bottom row 3rd pin counting from left to right.

those are my continuity results.

if your gpt-1 grey wire pins out at bottom row 3rd pin counting from left to right, then it's it labeled right. If it pins to top row 7th pin counting from left to right, then it's wrong.

Same goes for the other wire

Trying to read it with the knock off clone device you get a “completed unsuccessfully” message. Device works fine on the factory ECU.

Can confirm.

This is unfortunate as I was hoping to be able to backup my tuned ECU.

I bought a used one off eBay and was able to just over write the existing files. The ECU worked just like the stock one.

I found out that the PCM I bought from someone had already been tuned by Martin (MrTuning). That would explain why we couldn’t read it, but I wonder if that is also why we couldn’t write over it as well. 🤔🤷‍♂️

Yes it is likely locked. When locked it changes the access code from the default code to a unique code to prevent EEPROM read/write functions. AKA protecting the tuners work from easily being copied.

If you want that ECU you will need to have mr tune do a bench unlock for you, but he will need the original vin so he can look up the account.

So basically that ecu is a desk ornament.

if you are froggy, you could open the ECU up find the EEPROM chip remove it, and over write it with a EEPROM writer/reader using a copy of what you pull from your stock stock ecu using the same method......

Is there anywhere safe to download the GrdDrivers, pcmflash-1.2.0, and Scanmatik_2.21.22_Setup drivers? I managed to loose the CDrom that came with the SM2 Pro I bought sometime back. I tried to download some latest drivers I randomly found out there but I continue to get this error> Guardant dongle not found: Make sure that Guardant dongle is connected to the computer and the latest Guardant driver is installed.

Thank you!

What shipping company did everyone use to send their ECU to MR Tuning (Martin)? I went to the UPS Store to attempt to send it off, but left when they told me it would be $267! They said it wasn’t because of tariffs, but that it always has cost a lot to send internationally with them.

You got to pay to play. International shipping isn't cheap.

I did USPS. Labeled it as repair and return. Can't remember for sure but it think it was well under a hundred

::edit::
I went back and checked my account. It was $36.70 shipped from MN.

I understood that there would be shipping costs involved. 😉 But, last year I sent something to Canada and it was only $60+ or so. 🤔 The UPS Store suggested DHL. I was just hoping to get some constructive feedback. 👍

I sent via UPS. It was sixty something at the store, labeled repair/return. They refused to deliver a few times and found out, after being scolded by Martin for not using USPS, that it wasn't being delivered because there were brokerage fees due upon receipt by the recipient. Martin told me to pay so that it would be delivered. Another sixty some bucks. Three or four weeks later, I received my tuned ECM back via Canada Post.

Yup no surprise brokerage fees with USPS. You just need to fill out their customs form yourself but it's really pretty simple.

The same thing just happened to me and it really rubbed me the wrong way. He just tells you to ship it to him in the email after purchase, not what service to use. He just ignored me when I brought it up so I just ate the charge and am waiting on my ECU and exhaust now. It is like dealing with a plug almost ha.

Although I get the annoyance he isn't conveying knowledge he has up front, it's also sort of your job as a person shipping internationally to figure out what you're doing. You can't really blame him for that. All he rightfully cares about is that he receives it. He's already figured out his end shipping it back to you without you having to go out of your way to receive. Americans (as am I) are sheltered to having to figure out customs when shipping stuff. It's about to become a lot more common, get used to it.

I finally got around to cloning my PCM after sitting on it for a month and am glad to report that it went perfectly on 1st try.

Nobody warned me the hardest part of this process was taking the stock PCM out. I probably spent 45 minutes working to remove that bottom 10mm nut. What a royal PITA. All in all, the process took about an hour to remove the PCM and clone.

Currently it's in my truck now and running flawlessly. Thanks @rharr for the instructions-tremendous help to the community for the writeup.

I received 2 prompts that weren't in the instructions. I clicked OK and yes, respectively in the following photos.

I bought the programmer from AliExpress by the link provided by @Gladiator_92

Now off the PCM goes to GDE!
