Those are skids - pretty worthless as steps. The primary purpose is skid.

I also find that they are great mud collectors and carry small rocks very well

That stuff gets left at the car wash, although I have to say - the power steps and flaps prevent much from getting tossed up at the truck. .

There is only one car wash near where I always collect such memorabilia and its coin operated and the next one is 60 miles away near where I live and the pressure is so weak it wouldn't knock a gnat off a gut wagon .

I need to visit a pick-a-part and see if there are any laying around. Those things get pricey on the aftermarket.

Yeah I was just at the North Rim a few weeks ago. Highway 89 is shutdown by an even bigger fire. Pine Valley, Utah s just outside of St George and has been on fire for 25 days. I have been to 4-5 places in last year and all on fire. Just sad.

Go to the Great American Crawl they said, you'll have a blast they said... well we came damn close to having a true blast on Saturday at SMORR.
Our group was running advanced trails and had just made our way up Hillbilly Deluxe to Shady, running up Shady the shorter wheelbases in our group had to hop on a ledge.. that's where our adventure starts (these are all screenshots from the video) -

Recovery set up

Started pull and that's when the oh shit moment hit. Do I see a spark from the hood and battery? Is that gasoline I smell and see running out the overflow valve?

More oh shit...

Alright, I said a stronger expletive than shit here...

The gas is coming down the hill towards me, reverse and eff the winch line I'm coming out of there.

She's coming over...winch line held as I reversed...

Almost landed...

8 Extinguishers later (10 realistically, 2 were already empty/dead)...

Finally ready to pull it out to the camp and the tow ride back

End of the day, everyone safe - minor bumps, bruises, scratches, and a couple light burns from fire fighting.
Rig back and on the way to a buddy's shop at his house, we'll tear it down for rebuild this week.
Lessons learned -

• We should have had a second cable from a Jeep ahead of him to pull that front end off the tree, might have saved us from the fire starting.
• Always carry an extinguisher. I had two new ones waiting for me from Amazon when I got home. Kidde 2.5lb Fire Extinguisher - I can recommend it now, I've seen it work.
• Trust the friends you go out with or change the friends you go out with..

All in all, new friendships were formed and others were strengthened, what could have been much more serious and dangerous turned out as well as can be expected. We can rebuild the Jeep and we were able to put the fire out and keep it from spreading in the woods, thankful for the rain the area had seen as it wasn't that dry.

10/10 - Would go Crawl again.

The previous owner of my truck installed this Fishbone Offroad mount on the rear c-pillar of the rollbar. It just attaches with velcro. Seems decent.
