When it comes to the weight and the 3.6 vs the 5.7. I start to think about mileage for 3.6 with an additional 1000lbs pounds of kit out, food, water, gear versus the strain on the 5.7. I'd rather have 5.7 with all the extra weight even with the extra 160lbs. Overall it seem the 5.7 would handle it all better and thus be more reliable over time and maybe even have better gas mileage overall when full kitted and deflated.
This more or less (I doubt the fuel mileage would ever be quite as good), but more importantly, the 3.6L (although a great little engine IMO) is pushing it's limits. It's stressed pretty close to it's maximum limitations and that's why when you add another 500-800 lbs of gear & supplies in the back, you're seriously shortening it's lifespan. Can it do it? Yes. Will it last as long as the 5.7 which IMO, isn't nearly as close to it's limits even if it *is* producing another ~100 hp & 100 lb/ft of torque? I suspect not. I'd much rather have a more powerful, less stressed, engine.

I would consider this *IF* I end up with the "tick of death".

I know the odds are on my side and it is highly unlikely, but *IF* I end up cursed with that malady, there is just no way I would throw good money after bad by putting the same ticking time bomb back under my hood.

My Glad has a salvage title so Jeep has used that as an excuse to disavow any and all warranty claims on my vehicle. So yah... why not? Would be paying a pretty penny either way.

(ok...so a few more pretty pennies going the V8 route)

I would like to have the V8 for on road stuff, help moving larger tires and axles. A little extra power for offroad crawling would be nice at times but not the real draw of a V8 for me.
Nailed it. Pulling a small (2500 lbs) camper across the country has had me wishing for more power for the first time. Even with 5.38s I have to spin the 3.6 pretty high to maintain speeds with 38" tires. I've never felt it was under powered off road though.

5.38's are definitely gonna make you spin up high rpms. I always just found it easier to just let it kick down then back off the peddle , drop down to 37's probably see a nice gain.

I started a separate thread on this but, this thread seems like a good place to ask as well.

AMW 5.7 Conversion: questions about mods

For those that have done or knowledge of the 5.7 conversion:
  • Do you know if the Long Ranger aux tank will still fit? (exhaust mods expected)
  • Does the Genesis Dual Battery setup fit?

Also, did anyone catch that during the latest DRC video......

When he is talking to the welder, he mentions something about how the "turn key" version already come with the cross member mod she had to do?

Is this more confirmation that an "order it from Jeep" is coming?

Also, if that is true, after watching that video, there is no way Jeep would send AMW a build JT. To hit the price point LiteBrite mentioned, I'm betting a rolling frame without motor mounts would be sent to AMW.

IF there is a factory option 5.7 I seriously doubt it will be under $100k
I just want them to come up with a factory option. Not because I’d buy one. But because it might allow a swap to the same engine, to pass emissions. If you can get a gladiator stock with an engine, as I understand it, one with the same engine could pass.

Except fit and go through areas a Raptor can only dream, or leave paint in.
Yep. I don’t care about “raptor things”. I assume raptor things are to tow your sxs to the trail on a dirt road. Fine. They do it fast. But I’m captain slow’s apprentice.

Still way too expensive. Do you get to keep your factory engine and transmission and wheels and tires and suspension at that $40k price?
That was my question, if not then i expect a larger discount

I know on my diesel. I went to 30 sevens and did not regear. I'm running 3.73 gears, when they went to 37's with the HEMI did they regear? if not then there is a savings..... ð

For starters, the Raptor can tow more and has a higher payload than the JT. Putting a V8 in the JT will reduce those capacities. The live valve suspension in the Raptor is built for high speed off road, something the JT sucks at without a lot of work. What's the point of V8 power and speed in a truck that can't use it?
You're Jeep only lives in 4LO and below 3k rpms at that? Everywhere else you can absolutely use the power. From passing on the freeway to accelerating up a mountain pass. The 5.7L also returned better fuel economy in my ram than my buddies v6 when driven the same because the v6 had to be worked hard to keep up. In a lifted JT on big tires I'd expect the same results. Then there's the fact that the raptor is as wide as a mack truck and doesn't fit on most trails. I think the v8 only weighs 130lbs more than the v6 so you aren't decreasing towing or payload in any significant way and the extra torque would be welcomed hauling anywhere near the limit. I'll take a v8 JT over v6 raptor every day of the week for the same money.

I believe when they say “turn key” they mean one of AMWs’ rigs that is brand new but with all the upgrades that AMW does. It’s not a Jeep option or precursor to a partnership.

They address that in the latest video where drc's own pumpkin gladiator gets the swap. From the video they mention you can keep your stuff or get a credit for it. They also have a discount code on the swap itself but didnt mention how substantial it is. Iam sure its alot of money.
