So I just regeared to 4.88’s, the install was done by an Offroad shop (word on the street is they do gears regularly). During the break-in process I noticed a slight whine from the front while coasting..this was my first red flag. 2nd red flag happened today while doing hwy break in. It felt like the front driveshaft was spinning. I got to work this morning and confirmed the front driveshaft is spinning in 2wd.

My question is: If and what could’ve been damaged during this? It does not feel like 4WD is activated as I can turn just fine etc. Should the shop replace the front gears again? Any damage to the FAD or transfer case? What is the proper fix the shop should be doing to ensure quality work was done? Thanks in advance for any replies.

My first guess would be they didn't put the fork back in the collar correctly. Did you jack up the front and turn the tire to see if it spins the driveshaft?

Your 24 rubicon may or may not have a FAD. If you do have a FAD, then likely the locking collar and it's fork were not re-installed properly.

I don't have the electrical FAD, just a plate with a fork. I got under there and took it off and everything looks fine. The fork is in the collar, however the collar seems to be in a position where its locking the front drive shaft. When I slide it all the way over to the left i can spin the front driveshaft by hand, but when I slide it in the position it needs to be for the fork and plate to go back on it locks the front driveshaft again. I don't understand.

I don’t get this, if you have a fork but it’s not electric, what is it? The fork is moved by the actuator.

but when I slide it in the position it needs to be for the fork and plate to go back on it locks the front driveshaft again. I don't understand.
Is this just how they handled FAD removal? Fork is just in the engaged/locked position permanently?

You technically don't have the FAD actuator even though you have some of the hardware....24+ trucks it has been deleted.

There are threads all over the forum with possible solutions, however with a large part of the info being incorrect.....Consume carefully.

Is your rig lifted? If so how much?

OEM driveline or aftermarket?

Do you know what your caster angle is set to?

Lifted 2"s, OEM driveline, caster is 5.4 degrees.

I'll check out the other threads, thanks!

Am I just dumb and the front driveshaft is supposed to spin in 2WD now because of the factory fad delete? I came from a 2021 JT so I assumed it was the mechanics. You learn something new everyday. I guess I’ll have to figure out how to get the driveshaft from humming, by playing with my caster.

You might be able to dial it in since you are not lifted much and can afford to lose some caster.

Please update with your progress so we can see the threshold of what can be done with the 2024+ trucks.

Probably should reach out to 4x4Posilock and make them aware there is yet another need for their product?

You are correct. Your vehicle does not have a FAD. So when installed properly, your driveshaft will turn. From what I have seen, you need no more than 5 degrees of caster to solve the vibration issue, but each vehicle is different. It's possible you can dial yours in a bit and get rid of the problem without causing other steering issues.

They deleted the fad. It’s a large problem. Your front driveshaft will now always spin “by moronic design”, unless you add a fad yourself, or install locking hubs to disengage the shafts when you’re in 2wd. It’s so dumb. They took something that really wasn’t a problem and removed it. And now it’s a problem. It’s becoming common for these to blow transfer cases because lifted jeeps with less than ideal pinion angles are rotating the yoke at interstate speeds. It’s just a mess.

I did see that a company has come up with lock g hubs for this exact reason. The problem is that you then need a custom axle shaft. That’s not expensive if they’re u joints, but what if you want RCV axles?

Was the lack of a FAD some sort of a big deal in the JK's while in production for ten years and I wasn't aware? Seems like the now lack of one on JT's comes up a lot...

My 2016 was lifted 2.5" (I did have an aftermarket front drive shaft because I flexed that Jeep out a LOT) but it didn't have any vibration issues, driving at 70+ MPH issues, etc...

Someone has probably covered this and I haven't read it, lol.

Reasonable question for sure. I didn’t have a jk, so know less about those.

I can tell you, I paid a lot of attention to the front driveshaft and made sure it was well maintained since I knew that pole vault sized front driveshaft was spinning a million miles an hour below my feet.

Saw enough videos of Dodge Ram's getting the transfer case yeeted out from the front shaft failing at highway speed 😂
