Funny thing is, the thread title is actually on point, just not how they meant it. When I was shopping EVERYONE was telling me not to get a Jeep because it's garbage, especially the diesel. After I bought one EVERYONE was telling me it was a mistake and it's going to leave me stranded. 60k miles on the truck and the only issue I have is an intermittent service 4x4 light when its wet out.

He bought a USED jeep truck, a 2020 (known for steering issues unless addressed), with 40k+ miles, knew it was modded (said it had gears), drove it like a CAR, got scared, blamed "jeep death wobble" for not inspecting/maintaining their ride, proceeds to poke it with a stick stating "jeep sucks, do something..."

And he blew up a ZF 8 speed (known to be durable for drag racing, as good or better than a build 41LE).

Something doesn't sit right here.
I agree with everything but the transmission. I had the D clutch go out in mine. I am not a fan of the ZF transmission. Jeep replaced mine and gave me an extended warranty for my troubles. I didn't have my truck for 6 weeks because of supply issues, hench the extended warranty as compensation.

Theres always a few bad apples in every product. I have read that the 850RE (found in the gasser) might see more issues than a German built ZF, but overall they are a great transmission. One of the best performing transmissions I've owned.

53k miles on my JTR and have only replaced a single coil pack due to intermittent misfire. Unless the OP purchased his from his grandmother, maybe some of the blame should be contributed to the previous owner 🤷‍♂️

They’re handy. I drove em in Japan a decent amount. Nimble and good for short hauls when you don’t need a full size truck. Learned how to drive stick on one. Right hand drive and second gear starts. Great way to learn manual.
First day in South Korea the Army issued my team a full size Dodge van to drive between bases, thing was a freaking fat cow on the Korean roads, the Koreans could make a 3 lane road a 5 lane road, but that big boy didn't fit. After the first day we went back to the motorpool and asked for the Bongo Van instead. Way easier to drive with the traffic. Not as comfortable but the A/C worked so made up for it's size.

The Bongo vans were awesome!!!! I drove a lot of different stuff in Japan. From the Kei truck all the way up to a Blue Bird flat nose bus and a 5-ton stake bed. On Japanese rods. That was always exciting.

Bought my 2020 gladiator a year ago with 40k miles. I heard the horror stories about jeep issues so thankfully I got an extended warranty because in 8000 miles this thing has

1. Almost flipped on the highway at 70mph from the “death wobble”, a known defect and factory recall that @JeepCares and the dealership for some reason doesn’t just fix before putting drivers in harms way.

2. Glass defrost went out. Electrical noises and burnt wire smell. That was fun.

3. Radio went out, killing multiple electronic components that needed replaced (even though I bought the sport with almost no electronics)

4. Last but not least, and probably not last as long as I own this trash vehicle, the transmission. 50,000 miles and the transmission WENT OUT. The shop was shocked at the gear ratio, which lead to metal in the transmission fluid leaving the entire system compromised.

in a year of owning this, it’s been in the shop for 3 months. This transmission is on week 5 and still no parts to be seen.

@JeepCares I thought owning a jeep was the worst thing ever, but trying to get help is WAY worse. What a joke.
Well sorry to hear but my experience is complete different !! 2023 Gladiator Rubicon 58,000 miles and still going strong !! Been so many places in this thing .. rocks, gravel, asphalt, mud, mountains, deserts, forest, water crossings, Arctic Ocean !! My Gladiator is a beast of an overland vehicle !

The next year I was in Japan with the Navy, they didn't trust us (and we didn't need a van) but we'd have to take a full course to drive in Japan... in Korea the Army didn't care lol.

21 Gladi (Built Oct 2020) only real issue I've had is the rear axle seal recall and my exhaust cooler cracked. Leaked coolant into exhaust pipe. It did have wobble after lifting and 35s, but that was solved with new steering components. She just rolled over 80K and the Aux battery finally died this morning. Been a pretty trouble free vehicle to be honest.

I love my gladiator, 24k miles, has done everything I have tried with exception of high center after a bad approach to a steep hill and got stuck between a set of polls that were not set in the dirt correctly.

Many people say it's a great transmission, but Jeep has a TSB for how to rebuild it.

Mine was replaced at 21k miles.

I have no idea how you managed to destroy that transmission, the ZF8 is used all over in higher stress and much higher power engines. Something isn't adding up about your vehicle's history, it's starting to sound like the title got washed and those mods were done to cover damage.

Others have had problems with this Jeep 850RE transmission. It's not caused by the user, it's defective parts.
