Is a tazer a good replacement for an autostop start eliminator?

I currently have the auto stop eliminator. My sister had it in her wrangler and it stopped working. This weekend I will be ripping out the aux battery and cables and don't want to have the eliminator fail after doing this since its still needed. I thought maybe having the tazer would be better so not to worry about a part failing. I know its expensive but what do you all think? I assume that if the eliminator fails the vehicle will just display a warning about ess not working?

If my goal was to eliminate start stop, I'd go with the dedicated part you already have. The reason I say that is because I have the Tazer and I love it, but every few weeks, mine stops working. The only thing I have to do to get it working again is cycle to the menu so it isn't a huge problem for me. I'm in my second Gladiator with this same Tazer jl mini and it has done this with them both. I know people who have never had this happen so it might just be mine. I've always kept the firmware up to date also. It has never been a big enough issue to contact Z Auto so I just live with it.

Mine used to do this until a firmware update back in... Jan? Dec? Somewhere around there. It used to give me isseus every 2-3 weeks, but I haven't had an issue since.

My Jeep came with the Tazer on it so have no feedback on a separate stop/start eliminator thing. I will say if you spend the cash on the Tazer you get a lot of bang for your buck. It gives you the ability to change tire sizes, gear ratios, lighting functions and a whole mess of other things that I haven’t even dug into. Makes the modification of the Jeep much more of a self sufficient endeavor instead of having to rely on a shop or dealer to go in and make those changes in the software. Im not a techy guy but I can see the value in being able to change parameters myself rather than having to have someone do it for me.

I would say if you are only wanting to turn off the auto start then there isnt much reason to buy a tazer.

If you plan to mod the jeep then the tazer would make more sense as it allows you to adjust other parameters, such as tire size. I would advise you to take a look at what all the tazer offers and go from there

My experience with the tazer in general was it worked 95% of the time. I'd rather have shit be annoying consistently than surprising me sometimes. I really am not a fan of software injected into the chain of the vehicle system.

Installed an autostartstop module in line with the harness so the port is still available and used Jscan for the other things I wanted. 100% reliability, the shit I have changed including the start stop status hasn't changed once in 50k miles. No bypass cable.

No complaints. And overall, cheaper.

The ONLY thing I don't get with my method that I'd like that the tazer offers is the defeat of the triple honk when the key is closed inside the vehicle. And that only worked with the front doors and 80% of the time that I tested it.

The most common cause for Tazer related issues is: not following the marrying process to the T. Sometimes it just doesn't like to pair the first time either.

I had issues with mine for a while, but after the last tedious process it took fully and has yet to give me issues unrelated to my older smartphone I use with carplay. So I've deemed it a software issue with older devices on modern equipment, and name one modern tech device that NEVER has a bug here or there at some point...I'll wait.

The Tazer uses the CANBUS system to give features that otherwise we wouldn't have. Some features are more useful than others to some, but it's a use by use basis. If you only want the ASS system disabled, yeah it's overkill. But if you read through the other capabilities it offers, you won't find a more cost effective way of achieving those goals combined. As a programmer who knows CANBUS, I initially was going to do the same thing myself with an ESP32 (and might still down the road for features Tazer doesn't have), but I have more important things to work on at this time.

CANBUS is finicky by design, and if you understand how it works, you understand why it can be finicky at times with everything Stellantis is asking of it (deliberately consuming most of the bandwidth), then adding another module to force it's way in between the existing requests over CANBUS takes up the rest of its bandwidth.

I started with an Autostop. I gave it to my cousin and bought a Tazer.

Yes, it has its quirks but like others said if you want to modify other settings it's the way to go. Three honk being one of the best features. Lighting up the campground with your reverse lights from the fob is another favorite.

Over the weekend I used the Tazer's 2000 rpm winch mode to crank up a dead battery in my BMW in no time flat.

Tazer does much more than that….. I have one and only use 2 of the settings. šŸ˜†
Don’t forget about the Kill3Honk!!

Yes, it can be finnicky and you need to follow the setup/tear down directions exclusively. I’ve had mine for a couple years and its plugged in 100% of the time.
Every once in a while, the K3H won’t work….. and I’ll wonder why?
The last time the Kill3Honk wasn’t working (May of this year)….. I didn’t have time to deal with it. We went on a trip ….12 hour drive…. 5 days in a parking garage, and another 12 hour drive home. By the time I got home, it was working again. šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø
So, obviously….the long drives and/or if there were any updates cleared things up.
Who knows??
