Why do owners never take doors/tops off or go off-road?

My JT (previous JK) is my daily driver. My doors and hard top will never come off due to my law enforcement equipment I carry with me.

I now have a JT and owned two TJ’s. I would feel like I was putting up with a lot of cons and not taking advantage of any of the pros. All of those features are what make a Jeep unique. I bought a $50k car with a manual seat. Why? Top comes off, doors come off, it comes in a manual trans it’s fun off road.
If you take away all of those things All you have is an overpriced SUV/Truck that gets bad gas mileage with lots of wind noise, poor for the class ride and handling along with a kick in the wallet from the insurance company.

Of course that’s just the way I look at it.

When you write the check you get to decide how you are going to enjoy your jeep

One thing I can tell you going for a ride on a warm summer night with the top down and the doors off is hard to beat. Even driving to work with the top down in the morning is fun. If you can believe it haha

Still kicking myself for not buying a Scrambler

We have a rain forest just up the road. Taking the top off isn't practical. Also it never really gets warm. Had a couple days at 80, been high 60s low 70s all summer. Sunrider top is in my future.

Nice - I like those red seats. Are those covers or did you have them re-upholstered?

The same argument could be made about people who buy fast sports cars.
I know at least one other person on here as well as I have Porsche’s that are capable of speeds in excess of 175 mph but don’t drive that fast on the street, but like Jeeps it brings a smile to our faces when we drive them.

Here’s my track toy that I instruct in...

What exactly is the draw for people who have no desire to leave suburbia and urban areas to own these vehicles?

Just curious from a psychological perspective...
Why does any purchase need to be justified if it makes the purchaser happy? I have no intentions of wheeling in my Gladiator and it would be very rare that I go off-road, although I do live by the mountains and occasionally hike so it wouldn't be unheard of to leave the road.

I wanted to get a truck because I realized how much I would use one after renting a u-haul trailer to take my Ducati to a trackday and using said trailer to also get plywood and a bunch of other large things from Home Depot. And then also realizing how many times I've had stupid stuff delivered because it wouldn't fit in my car or my wife's SUV. As long as I'm getting a truck, why not get something fun that won't blend in with 95% of what's on the road?

I only get really annoyed by one type of person - gatekeepers.

Reasons I bought a gladiator
Cool,fun,versatile vehicle
Top and doors off driving as much as Ohio's weather permits
Will it see much off roading, probably not, but driving in Ohio on pavement is sometimes like off roading and I live in a rural area where 4 wheel drive is a must have in the winter

Can someone please explain to me why so many people have Wranglers (and I'm sure it'll be the same with the Gladiators) that never, ever take the tops or doors off or leave the pavement? Maybe because I see so many left and right here in the DC metro area, most of them being Rubicons no less, and the biggest obstacles their vehicles ever see is accidentally tagging a curb.

its not psychological at all. some people just dont have time or the inclination. its the same reason people who buy mustangs corvettes ferraris and such only take them to starbucks. some people just buy what they think looks good. you dont need to go to a racetrack just because you own a sports car. or tow 33000lbs because you own a 1 ton.

Oh my! :involve: Beautiful S2! :like:

My 944 cannot hit 175mph, but she’s a dream on a curvy road. :sun:
