So your steering was tight when you bought it but became loose?

Correct. After about 15,000 miles i started to get a lot of sawing in the steering wheel, in high winds it was a chore to keep it in a lane on the highway.

Has anyone figured out where these garbage steering boxes are manufactured yet?
The steering sector brace makes a huge difference but still doesn’t correct the dead spot on the steering box

About freaking time they addressed the issue!
For the JLs it was even longer!!! But now, when Canadian dealers will receive it? Bets are open!!!

That's promising. Thread on JL forum is stating parts aren't available until mid-September. I had planned on doing some steering mods to try to fix this myself but I can wait another month.

My concern is if they will apply that service bulletin to a modified suspension like many if not most JT owners will have. I would hate to have to de-mod and go back to stock to get this applied.

What do they mean by "replace the steering gear"? Not replace the steering box, but a part inside it? I'm also curious about this software update, as I doubt they had that when they replaced my steering box a few months back.

I am pretty sure they mean the whole box and they just call that the Steering Gear.

I talked to my dealer and they said they have no record of this. At first said nothing showing against my vin number. I said it is for all gladiators. "oh then it must be only certain production models" I said not according to the bulletin. I got no where.

I hope dealers don't deny this because of larger tires...
Since the role out of the gladiator, FCA have heavily promoted the ability of the vehicle to accept larger tires (even in the storage well - accommodating up to a 35). If they (dealers and FCA) start pulling that crap, it will cost them a fortune more in litigation than just taking care of the issue.

Steering gear and steering sector are used interchangeably.
Repair manuals dating back decades may use either.
If they are referring to the gears inside, they'll specify which.
The term is also singular.
