My truck is still at the dealer waiting for Jeep engineers to provide a solution. No time frame on when I can expect my truck to be fixed…

I jumped on the JL forums and it’s been an issue since at least 2018. I plan on disconnecting it no matter what jeep does to repair it

Disconnecting the aux battery?

If yes, then what? Jumper the leads from the aux battery to the main battery?

Yikes. A lot of funny questions and posts in this thread.

- Aux battery is a POS. End of story.
- Get a Genesis dual battery kit and you'll never have to worry again

- If the Aux battery gets low, you MIGHT get a warning. Many times you don't. Mine died on three separate occasions, replaced 4 times in total, in a two month span with less than 2k miles. Ripped that shit out and placed the genesis kit in. No problems now that I am at 48,000 miles.

- Taser won't do shit for it, and either will any other programmer.

- If you disconnect the Aux battery the jeep will not start, unless you make your own wiring to make the main battery ALSO the Aux battery (in the mind of the vehicles computer at least).

I highly suggest getting a dual battery set up, or at minimum, a battery monitor screen for both batteries.

If he does this and does not reconfigure the wiring so the computer believes the main battery is also the Aux battery, he will be dead in the water.

If you jumper the leads together and feed them both from the main, the computer will probably reboot every time you restart the truck when the starter draws the main bus voltage down.

This is fine if you don't use the auto start stop, but a huge hassle if you do.

I'm obviously speculating. But keeping a $3 set of jumpers in the car to get you home if the Aux batt dies is not a bad idea.

That is true. I was thinking more along the lines of taking out/unhooking the aux battery period. That, would cause the vehicle to not start at all.

Got it. Yes. The ECU seems to be looking for power to the aux batt leads before it will let anything happen. Its strange that they would engineer this kind vulnerability into the vehicle

Never trust dealer roadside assistance. Even Mercedes left me stranded the one time I tried - and this was middle of LA just because they couldn’t find a flatbed. It’s not their fault, just a crappy service. Been AAA Premier ever since and it’s been money well spent even for stupid things like running out of gas (BTW - when your gauge reads under 1/8 tank, you’re most likely already empty ? oops).
I’ve had plenty of issues with AAA, too. They’re also at the mercy of local tow truck drivers. When you get stuck on the side of a highway near a small town where the local guy is on vacation, you’re screwed either way. But when AAA fails to relay this message back to the customer and leaves them there to wait indefinitely in the dark with their whole family, that’s all on them.

By all means hop on over to the JL forum and you can read for yourselves the countless others who have had this issue with multiple vehicles in the mopar spectrum since they started using the dual battery. There is a relatively simple fix to either delete the aux battery altogether, carry a fused jumper, or use a battery shut off switch and a couple volt meters to monitor the aux battery as a true aux battery with examples, parts lists, and wiring diagrams.

But please tell me again how it definitely won’t work…

I completely agree with you and the Genesis battery setup is on my upgrade list. There has to be a reason that the aux battery keeps draining and dying.

Awd vehicle need a flat bed or set of rear dollies to be completely off the ground. Jeep doesn’t because you can put the transfer case in neutral
They must be flat towed or on a flatbed. They can't be towed with just front or just rears lifted.

For insurance purposes, many companies will NOT haul people or allow them in their vehicles. I used to work for a shop that did towing. It's a liability thing in SOME cases.
Could be other reasons.
