Between wheels & tires I'm at 117lbs per corner and I'm averaging 14 mpg. :(
Yeah it could be driving habits. I baby mine, and I'm running stock steel wheels. Couldn't tell you what they weigh but I've been told 26lbs, if that's the case I'm only at 96lbs a corner.

I baby mine too. Most of my driving is short trips at 50 or below so I don't see 7th/8th gear much. Best tank so far was 15.1 and that was mostly a long trip doing around 60-65. I turned ASS back on for this tank for science. Don't think it's going to make much of a difference.

Run that calculation again with 16mpg gas and 24mpg diesel … I have had BOTH gas and now a diesel gladiator … diesel on 35’s always got 16mpg, city and highway, I could get it down to 14mm if I am heavy on throttle. Maybe squeak out 18 I’d I drive 65 on the highway. The diesel does about 24mpg and can touch 29mpg going slow in the highway. At worst I’ve seen 20mpg doing 80+ in a storm with strong headwinds.
Around 55k with my local fuel prices. I'm just plugging numbers into Excel for fun and the price difference between regular and diesel will definitely change regionally. Gas owners may also opt to run plus or premium in response to pinging which would of course sway the cost side of things into the diesel's favor much sooner.

I am guessing this is a gasser, my launch gasser with 4.10's and 35's was perfect. I probably could have gotten away with 37's if they were light.

5.13'S????? thats the reason

and if the speedo is not re-calibrated that avg number on the dash is wrong also.

I will say it one more time, if you want larger than 35's or care about fuel economy I would highly recommends the diesel
Absolutely my Sport S Jt diesel on 35's i get about 24.6 hand calculated my Rubicon Jt diesel on 37's i get about 21.8 hand calculated diesel is the way to go

It depends on what numbers you use to calculate it, what economy you'd actually get in the real world on each version, and what the cost of gas vs diesel is in your area. When I played with the numbers, the payback period could be as soon as 36k miles or way out past 100k. Using the current prices from my closest station for regular versus diesel, and assuming an average of 15mpg on gas or 25mpg on diesel, it would be around 42k miles. If I use the values from the window stickers of 19mpg vs 24mpg, that takes it to something around 110k. But that does not account for the extra maintenance costs (DEF, oil changes, fuel filters, etc.).

Note: I am neither pro nor anti diesel, heh. And it's definitely a great option for those looking to run tall and/or heavy tires.
The one thing i don't see in your calculations is resale value? As a dealer so far any diesel Jt on the market brings significantly more then the gasser i think mostly because theres way less on the market but the difference is enough to consider in gas vs diesel in my area

I have a JTR on 37's with the stock 4.10s and drive about an hr each way to work with the majority of the trip being spent at 60+. I average 16/17 with top and doors on but 11/13 with the doors and top off. And it's been fairly consistent with the 25k miles I've driven over the past 7 months

I keep seeing mileage all over the place from individuals on this forum. There are several that don't understand why I don't care for my JT as a daily Driver, well, 1st of all, I love my JT, but with 5.13 gears, 5x 76lb tires, I am truly getting just 10 mpg's on the highway. Now to be fair, when I throw my 33's with the stock wheels on, I get 20mpg. When I had the stock baloney skin Desert Dueler's, I got 22 mpg, great right? When I have the 37's on, and I go about 45-ish, I'm up to 18. and I'm not complaining about my JT's mileage because I know how to get better mileage, but once again, I have a car for that. My truck has never done better off road since I put the 37's on and changed the gearing. I wouldn't change a thing. My main point is, It's all a trade off, and different parts of the country require different setups. I live in the Rockies, go to MOAB and Ouray every year since I've had it, 2 now, going on 3. I hate the mileage going to the play areas, but I love the truck when I'm at the play areas. Big Bear was the deciding factor for going to the 5.13 gears. Rock gardens were painful with 37's and stock 4.10 gearing. Now that its assembled, it is a blast. I don't mind it being amazing for trails, and horrible as a DD, it's the nature of the beast with a 40 mile round trip to work. Gas cost alot, and the tires were $450 ea. last time I checked, so while I am a true believer the JT is not the ideal DD, it is a hell of a truck if you build it the way you need, and I'm sure I'm on the off-road end of the spectrum. So what ever you use your JT for, make it the best and share with everyone here what you use it for, so we can all learn. I love seeing JT's everywhere, but my favorite place to see them is in the wild, on the trails, in the Jeep Meca country and I love seeing the smiles and the side panels plastered with BOH's. So until gas is completely out of hand, I will save the bulk of my miles for trails, and the not the pavement jungles of the city. I'm going to hit 4-5 more trails this year, and I really hope to see you and your JT on those trails, because thats where the smiles are the biggest and the JT was meant to shine.

I'm in Colorado 5280 feet and on 37x20's Nitto TG's running 5.13 gears & I'm getting 13.8 mpg. I was getting 16.5 MPG but I recently added a smart cap EVO A which weighs 250 lbs. or so. I would double check that your tire size is calibrated properly and that the gearing is set right in the computer. I've seen those settings revert with the Tazer attached. Either that or you have more weight that I do. I plan to swap out the bumpers for steel one's add a winch, I'm adding power steps next week and side body armor. I may be down to the 10 MPG Mark before it's all done lol.

Not sure what may be causing your gas mileage issues. I did a trip last summer from KY to Sedona, Death Valley, Yosemite, Rubicon, Tahoe, Vegas, Moab and back for a total of over 6,000 miles and averaged over 17 mpg. On the highway I set the cruise at 76 and mostly stayed in 8th gear with the exception of some hills and really heavy wind in New Mexico. I have a JT Rubicon with a 3.5 inch lift, 37 KO2's with 5.13 gears and a bed cap that was full of camping gear as well as three large people. We drove trails in Sedona, did a few hours on the Rubicon and then Hell's Revenge, Fins & Things and Elephant Hill in Moab, so it wasn't all highway driving. When I first go the gears, lift and tires the calibration was off and caused me to speed and burn gas for a few days.

I do have an RTT on as well that sticks up higher than the Soft top. But like I stated, Its all good. Even if I got 12-13 mpg's, (which might be the case once the RTT is off) so what, I'm not going to disassemble my JT for every use, when all I have to do is park it in my garage and drive my car. Right? Why run the miles up on an "Off Road JT" just so I can drive on pavement? Thanks for the help, but I'm happy, as I'm sure you are, for whatever it is you use yours for. See you on the trails.

Sadly my Costco doesn't carry diesel, a Costco about 20-25 minutes out of my way does though.

Has the OP returned?

Perfect answer. It's all good. If I could, I'd do the same, build a dedicated off-road vehicle and have a daily for the street. But my daily would probably be a stock JLU Sahara or something, because I like the 4 door convertible and doors-off aspect. But I'd have a built JT or JL for the trails, and a civil one for the street. I had to choose between having a daily-drivable jeep or no jeep so I picked having a capable enough, stock-ish, daily-drivable jeep. Ever since we sold our last one, I missed it.

Not trolling with this -- I haven't done the math -- does the MPG improvement on the diesel offset the costs in the fuel?
My Diesel Rubi with 37's with stock gearing gets 23 on the road. The torque is a blast. I don't have any wheel spin. You forget what you pay for the Diesel options after driving once in the hills. I can drive 75 in 8th gear. it's a hoot to drive.
