I have a 2023 Glad, 3.6 engine. I'm at 650 miles, I always had my oil changed every 5000 miles. Should I get the first oil and filter at 2000 miles . I have been reading that some people do. Because of the engine break in. Will the dealer change it at 2k under the wave plan ?. Then I'll get it changed every 5k after that. Thanks.

5000 is good. Depends on how rough you drive or how much you tow.

Will the dealer change it at 2k under the wave plan ?
Yes.

Yes.
I don't tow, It's a daily driver, and will only see beach sand while surf fishing. I'm really loving this truck. Thanks

You really should not get pushback from the dealership if you want to use one of your Jeep Wave services early, most do not care.

Also, there is no detriment to taking out the first oil change to 5K miles. I have done it on plenty of new vehicles I have purchased. Your factory installed oil filter has already caught any material of significance and changing early will just be for the personal feels.

I bought my 2023 Mojave this last September and it just turned 10K miles. ABSOLUTELY in love with this thing. I don't think the dealership cares how many miles you have on it before the free oil changes... they are giving you two and it doesn't really matter when they are done (IMHO).

A lot of things we do in life have to do with how we feel about things (right, or wrong). With an initial oil change I don't think I would be able to go the 5K without getting the initial oil-change as I believe (and again this is just my opinion), that when the engine is breaking there has to be some amount of debris collected in the oil.

I got mine changed at 3k miles, and then again at 8k miles. I will continue getting it done religiously every 5k miles. Good luck with your new vehicle friend.

I did mine after the first 1,000 miles just to get all the metal flashings that wore off during the break in out...not only the oil but the filter too.

Probably not all that necessary but, better safe than sorry.

You have XX number of oil changes on the books. The quicker you use them up the quicker the FCA dealer network gets the liability off the corporate books.

5,000 is fine.
If you want to see how things are going you can send a sample to have it analyzed.
Here's my 20,000 report.

I did first one at 500, then again at 2500 next will be at 5k. Then every 4-5000 thereafter.

they’re free from jeep wave and dealer, and I feel better about it.
the plan is based off lots of research and my knowledge of engines. I’m no mechanic. I’ve worked on a lot of vehicles for fun, built engines and destroyed engines.
bottom line, changing oil that often cannot hurt anything. Though, It COULD help. I’m happy with the free piece of mind.

I’ve changed mine at 3775 after a long trip (was planning 2500) and then 5000 then every 5K after. Send in my oil analysis to Blackstone every time. Cutting open the filter after the first oil change was eye opening to say the least.

I’ve relayed this conversation here a few years ago but I think it bears repeating.

Several yeas ago my construction company built a custom home for the head of Ethyl Oil’s R&D department. In case you don’t know (I didn’t at the time), they make the additive package for many of the major oil brands and this guy had 30 PhD’ s working for him.

When I bought my first Porsche I asked him what was THE best procedure for oil changes with a new vehicle. He told me that manufacturers don’t use a “break in“ oil like they used to in part because the new oils (particularly synthetic) are so much better than they were a few decades ago.

However, with improvements in machining the tolerances in modern engines are much tighter than they used to be and this makes it critical to remove contaminants, particularly when new and the various components are mating to each other.

To make a long story short he said for regular street engines your first oil change should be between 1000 and 2000 miles and this is what I’ve done ever since.

As far as the Jeep dealer is concerned they don’t care what mileage you have your oil changed. They may ask you about it but it’s your perogative.
