That cam repair can take a few months. It's just wrong that you have to continue payments, registration, insurance, and watch the value of it go down while it just sits waiting for a part. Let us all know what Jeep Cares does for you on this.
That cam replacement takes me about three hours, but it takes the parts department months to get the parts.

Is the replacement cam and lifters better than the failed ones so that failure doesn't happen again . Or is it the same?

It is the same part numbers being put back in and some people have had multiple same failures after replacement..

To add to the anecdotal evidence. 2020 Sport S. Mine started audibly ticking just past 60k in the middle of a cross country drive. By the time I got it to the dealer I was at 62k. No lights yet, but the dealer wants to replace both right side cams. It is devastating that it happened right out of powertrain. I’ve reached out regarding any good will coverage from FCA via @JeepCares.
EXACT.SAME. Mine was during a 4hr trip home at 61,500mi on the nose. Even though I was just out of the 60K mile portion of the warranty, I was 6 months past the 60mo piece so I was more screwed on time than mileage to fight anything.

Aside from the ticking,
is power or fuel economy affected?
What are the long-term effects?
Short answer , yes if ticking occurs and you indeed have a cam failure you will loose power on the top end. As the lobe will be wore down . Letting it go can lead to metal shavings in someone else's transmission 🤭🤣
Okay seriously it can lead to a bad day at the office if it happens get it looked at and fixed.

FWIW I saw somewhere that the backorder for camshafts is over 12K? Incredible number. They can't get them fast enough.

Well the service department reached out today and have finally confirmed I need the camshaft kit. They have had the truck for 2 weeks and who knows how long it will be down for. They said the service manager just put in the order last Friday. Between my post chemo appointments, our newborn’s doctor appointments and work, I need the truck back on the road asap. Going to reach out to @JeepCares and see if there is a preferred way to put in the order to hopefully get it in faster. Otherwise I will have no choice but to beg the dealership for a somewhat fair trade on a new truck.
Hi Mark,

Please send our team a private message with your VIN and we can connect you with a case manager for extra support alongside the dealership. Thank you.

That's why I leased my 2023 Glad. so far no problem. But when the lease is up so is Jeep, unless they have a better set up. I don't like driving a time bomb, maybe nothing will happen or it will. At 75 years old I don't like that. Jeep is BS for not getting the parts fast enough. Stellantis stinks. I love the Glad, but I want longevity. I feel bad for people that are making payments with no Jeep to drive.

I've been talking with people in the parts business - it's absolutely horrible on these cams, yes, but - they aren't the only parts hard to get, and not the only company. It's as if we're still back in 2021 or whatever.
Some of the stuff being discussed isn't even commonly replaced parts - still, backorder or hard to get.
We still have supply chain issues, apparently.

Poor Kevin...........

Yeah, a ticking MAY be something else - but if it's concerning, better to check than leave it if you like the vehicle.

And yes - as Hootbro said - it's a mixed bag - some say "it was fixed and never broke again" while others say "30K later, here we go again". So why does the repair last for some and not others? Why do the original parts last for some and not others?

Hello boys, I'm baaaack.

Add me to the list. ~63,000-ish miles. At least there's no metal shavings to be found.
Jeep Gladiator 3.6 Engine Tick IMG_3040

If anyone's tracking symptoms:
It's always had a little tick/pressure sound.
Then came the louder tick around 60,000mi (missed it by *that* much) which sounded more like an exhaust leak - it never really got loud or fluctuated with RPMs.
Gas mileage is irrelevant; I haven't regeared after putting 37s on and lifting it ~3".
Tossed the misfire Cyl 1 code a handful of times. I was able to determine this misfire would happen at/above 5000 RPMs.
Power didn't seem to decrease. Once I found when the misfire would occur, I would drive it gingerly and sparingly.

When it happened, we were not in an area conducive to inexpensive mechanical aid. After a while it didn't get worse, so I just babied it until we got home.

They are there, small, in the oil filter for the most part.
Do two oil changes in fairly quick succession. Change it, drive it a bit, change it again.

Power didn't seem to decrease.
It often won't - not as far as what you "feel", depending on how many were ground off and how far the cam profile is compromised. It will have more impact at high RPM than typical driving speeds.
You are in low lift unless it determines more power is needed, then kicks to high lift mode, but with one lobe of one cylinder compromised, it's likely not something you'll "feel".
