35s or 37s

I live at 6,100 feet. You are in Guam. So I assume pretty damn close to sea level.

The JT is underpowered from the get go at 6,100 feet. When I did Imogene I was at 13,100 feet. I opted for 4.88 and it works great for me. Plus I knew I could nudge into 37s if I wanted to.
If you have a JTD, you do not need to regear at all. There is a science to regearing and an opinion piece. Some tell you they run 35s or 37s and 3.73 and love it. I didn't last a week before I ordered gears. My advice is to find a rig with tires you have and a gear swap and drive it.

This is my first jeep. I learned as I went. My philosophy is overbuild it for what you intend to do. Then wheel just under or at the capabilities of the rig. I wheel as much as I can. We hit some solid trails from intermediate to lower end of what people would classify as hard. I plan on trusses, better steering knuckles, and beefier ball joints. Maybe a stouter shaft. Maybe. I am sure there is a guy or gal on here who knows way more about this than I do.

Yeah, we just PCS’d to Guam, a smaller island than Oahu and the max speed limit here is 35 mph lol.

@DocMike what are the thoughts on trusses and the need? I haven’t seen much on the need when going 37’s.

Depends on how heavy you go really. You should be ok on 37's and no trusses though. I've been looking hard at the Kanati Mud Hogs in a 39 12.5 17 so I can keep my stock wheels. Only thing that's keeping me from them are the weight, going from 72lbs a tire to 90lbs a tire.

Rugged ridge arcus front bumper with rc winch, Oracle headlights and metalcloak fenders with their inners also. About to add rpm steering as soon as it arrives.

Looks good. You should be able to do a fender chop on your fenders. I had considered doing that before the metalcloaks.

How hard do you plan to wheel?

I can see a certain level needing the additional reinforcement. I don’t plan on doing much outside of the alpine loop and various trails in the surrounding area and I’m confident trusses are overkill for those.

It's all personal preference. This is my first Jeep. I am learning a lot. One thing I have observed is we spend a lot of money for "in case shit happens" Recovery gear and the like. Trails change too.
Balanced Rock off Mt Herman should be easy. Most of it is. Last time I ran it, a section was so eaten up I was at full flex and dragging on 35s. Trusses for me are cheap compared to busting something and needing a tow or to do a field repair.

Plus you have a Rubicon. I have a Sport S. Different axles from what I understand.

37’s look badass, there’s no debate. Do you need them to go off-roading? Hell no. I have 35’s, did I immediately start making plans for 37’s the next go around? Hell yes.
