What RPMs are you seeing in 6th gear on the interstate? At 4.56 you're already 2400, which seems to be the perfect combo of fuel economy and torque to not have to downshift at every hill or headwind. I'd imagine 4.88 you're closer to 3k. That's great torque, and I'm sure the engine can handle it, but it's probably also costing you 1-2 MPG. No, the Jeep was not made to be efficient, totally get that-- but 1-2 MPG when you're already only getting 16-19 is significant if you'll be on the interstate more than on rocks.
2,400 RPM with 4.56 would be 2,568 RPM with 4.88.

4:10 to 4:56 or 4:63 isn’t that much of a change.
I actually question if it is worth the money.
If considering 4:63, go with 4:88
But to answer your original question.
I would pass on 4:63 in case you ever had a gear problem in the future. Parts availability may be an issue.

Almost no difference as stated above!

I might opt for 4.63's rear and 4.56's front to eliminate the front push in 4wd since it's on 1.5% difference.

Before all of the naysayers freak out about this.......how many Ford F150's rolled off the line with 3.50 rear and 3.54 fronts? They also absolutly sucked for making turns in 4wd.......

Again, daily driver and no desire for anything bigger than 35's. Just need a scoatch more torque returned to get back into (presumed) OEM optimal RPM specs for what the 4.10 did for 33's. Even 1-200 extra RPMs makes a fuel economy difference when 97% of use will be hwy.

I get the exotic ratio/parts availability caution, but I'm going to assume I won't need to replace my drivetrain again. While not zero of course, I would think catastrophic failure of drivetrains is rare enough not to have to account for how to fix it already? ...he says as he jinxes himself

What size tires came from the factory and what is the goal for size?

I had my previous JKU regeared from 3:73 to 4:56. Started with the factory 255/75/17 and went to 34’s.

You might be thinking about Ozark Overland Adventures who went with 5.29s? I think it was a pinion set-up issue that lead to the failure (not bashing brand "x" or "y") but the point of the story (@ 4:15 mark in video) was that only one company made them and support was extremely limited. Good callout none-the-less to have better aftermarket support for a widely supported 5.13 gear set.

Yes, he also went with Nitro...

Absolutely. You called it. No I wasn't bashing, but a little inconvenience can turn into an expensive nightmare if you're on a trip far from home and/or you depend on 1 vehicle for work and play.

I thought the same thing until I had to have my Yukon 5.13 gears changed out 3 times due to bad gear sets coming from the manufacturer. Luckily, 5.13 was readily available, 4.63 might not be if you happen to get a bad set.

I assume you didn't stay with the same brand after they sent the first bad set ...let alone 3?

I did because I had the Yukon Warranty with them. If I would have changed to a different brand, it would have cost me another $2,500 to change them out, whereas the warranty replaced them for free. I figured I would get a decent set eventually (I never did before I sold the Jeep).

4.88 seem like the better option even for 35’s. I believe thsts what is in the extreme recon package which has 35’s

I ruled out Yukon based on stories I read about thier quality since moving production from India to China within the last couple of years. People still believe they are at or near the top in quality. All forum stories, of course, but there are a lot.

I do gear jobs daily and don't have these issues so they are pretty rare.

I think just do your research and don't get caught up on low bidder? There are shops in my home town that are doing gear swaps for about half of what I charge, but you can trust it's not apples to apples in comparison.

I also insist on doing the Dana gears w/ Dana install kits.........I don't care what the price difference is because it's my reputation and warranty costs on the line.
