Alu-Cab Canopy Camper Roll Call

I did for my solar, but was careful to stay around the edges. It’s strong.

I did the same today. Was careful not to put a lot of pressure on a single spot, but was leaning on top of it and at one time was lying on the roof. Wasn't an issue. And the solar panel is on as well.

Just picked my Jeep up after finally getting regeared (4.88).

it was drivable on 4.10, but goodness does it feel like a whole new Jeep now. Best upgrade by far.

Went camping in the Bradshaw Mountains in Arizona. It was a great trip. The JT did great and the All-Cab was fantastic as usual for carrying everything in an organized manner and giving us a convenient place to sleep. We started in Wickenburg and made our way to the "Back way to Crown King" trail. I have some fun video of the toughest part of that trail, although we didn't get two other tough spots. I just need to edit it down and upload to YouTube and I'll share.

Question for with an Alu-Cab Camper on the Gladiator. Has anyone run 37" tires with the ALu-Cab? If so, I assume you modified the suspension, coils, brakes, and ever gearing? I am looking at getting an Alu-Cab to my current Jeep (2020 Jeep Gladiator) and want the insurance of greater clearance for the trails in Arkansas.

Any learnings? I am fortunate the budget is not as much a concern as making sure I can get what makes my solo overland trips enjoyable.

I have 37's but they are smaller KO2's which really are approximately 36.something. But yes changed the suspension not for the tires but I did for the AluCab. I went with the AEV Dual sport XP suspension lift kit and added the HD springs which gives the truck about a 4 inch lift initially and then settles in about 3.5. Love the lift and then I changed out the rear track bar to a Helwig and put in the Falcon 2.2 steering stabilizer and both parts made a big difference in the handling of the fully loaded truck with water in the tanks.

I should also say I didn't change the gearing since mine is a diesel, it really didn't need it. I may someday soon but haven't really needed it in the last 20k miles.

As promised, I finally got a chance to edit a short video of one of the more fun sections of the trail up to Crown King. It was a great trail and the Gladiator did everything it was asked. Highly recommended! Turn on your sound to hear my wife's reaction to the big slide in the middle.

Interesting, I did the same Crown King route two weeks ago and did the exact same sideways slide at that exact spot. With the late rains and wet rocks, seemed a little spicier than the normal route descriptions

How about that boulder in the middle of the road right around the corner from here? Good thing for sliders.

Anyway, on a steep hillclimb one of the guys with a Alu-Cab was going at it hard and you could see the cab/bed moving violently. I dont know about anyone else but I would be worried about frames cracking/breaking with that much violent movement.

The frame does flex as Phil @ Liberty Mountain Fab found out on his JT just adding a big steel bumper with a 40" on it. Hence he doesn't recommend doing this. I need to have him look at what can be done to reinforce the frame..not sure if that's even possible.

I finished my elect install and modified the Goose Gear cabinets from the donor Toyota to fit and go where I want them. Waiting for the hinges and 1010 parts to arrive so I can cut up the Toyota Goose gear base plate for the 2 large doors and back wall panel. Drivers side cabinets I'll make a shelf about 5" down to keep gear off the elect. I'll still have some storage from the front. The Passenger small bottom drawer I'll hinge and use the original face of the drawer. That area TBD may put a heater or water pump/accumulator there..TBD.

I did face the exposed cabinets with leftover filler panel material, I didn't like how Goose Gear left the end.

50L water tank is on its way plus some goodies from 813!

Thinking about getting 1 tons as the weight is out of hand. Non of the Alucab's Canopy Camper and all the other gear weight gets transferred to the front axle, and even if it did these axles are going to be over loaded. Front axle lost 30lbs. This is Daily driver spec so not loaded up for camping..

Certified scale:

Weight is before the Canopy Camper and the addition of the ADS 3 tube bypass shocks, air bumps and Currie Rear bar. Plus all the elect and Goose Gear.

Total 5970lbs , Front 3370lbs, Rear 2600lbs

After Total 6910, Front 3340lbs, Rear 3570lbs

GAWR Total 6450lbs, Front 3400lbs, Rear 3750

Its sets level. Thinking about swapping to Clayton's 2.5" front springs, should raise the rear a tad and maybe shift some weight to the front. I have 7" front compression travel so can afford to loose 1".

Yeah but that's a lot more movement than I would expect, especially a fully boxed frame. The cab has rather large bushings that probably move quite a bit but the bed is bolted directly to the frame. It wouldn't take many of those kinds of movements to cause something to crack. That was some pretty severe slippage though and hopefully not a regular occurrence.

I think you would be fine with the axles even being overweight. All the YouTubers are at least at that much weight or more, and routinely do some pretty hard stuff that is not easy on their Gladiators - none of them so far have indicated any major issues.

813 Electronic Lock, I just installed and am ready to wire it up to the green/white and green/brown jeep trail gate lock wires..lock has 2 wires a blue and a green, question is which color goes to which wire?

Other question has anyone done a propane heater like a Whale or a propex if so link to their install.

Hi! The Gladiator wires work either way I’m pretty sure. The lock is basic so I think you can go with either wire.
