I deleted my aux battery but another, even smaller coarser and darker one grew back on the other side of the engine compartment. I deleted that one too. Fingers crossed.
Funniest Jeep thing I've read in a while...bravo.

I disconnected the aux battery and ran the positive leads from the aux to the main battery and the neg leads from the aux to the main. Started the truck and every thing was screwed up. Radio was blue screen, no control on climate, slow on charging. It would run, start and drive normal. Had both batteries checked at Auto Zone and both were good, so I installed everything back like from the factory and now everything is back to normal. Should I have pulled the #42 fuse?

Fuse 42 is just for the system to look at voltage on the auxiliary battery during startup. If you pull the fuse the system looks at the main battery.

I have a 2022 Mojave with the original batteries, and I am wondering if I need to change them before the upcoming Wisconsin winter and if so, do I replace the auxiliary battery or delete it. I do not use the ESS
Deleted, manual shift-never used ESS nor would I want my engine stopping every time I do.

Just remember this is part of the emissions system for your car and by law the EPA can come after you if they determine you did remove or permanently disable it. Watch out in states that require vehicle inspections.

Haven't touched it. Works fine for me, no issues, why mess with it?

It will when your dash and radio start going crazy and in my case fried my radio.

🤷‍♂️ The ESS feature doesn't bother me. The rest, time will tell.
I'm in the same boat. I don't use the ESS feature, but I don't mind having the secondary battery. I keep the batteries charged, maintained, and desulfated. I might eat my words, but I'm confident that I can get at least 5 years out of the OE batteries by keeping them charged and maintained.

I carry a GOOLOO GP4000 jump starter with me. I also have a 7 year/100,000-mile bumper to bumper Mopar MaxCare Warranty.

If you don’t use ESS there is really no good reason to keep the auxiliary battery in the electrical system, there is a proven downside to the much smaller auxiliary battery failing and taking the primary battery with it. My two cents.

What would be the upside for keeping the auxiliary battery? In car audio, they install a secondary battery in parallel. The Ram Cummins has two batteries (granted they are of equal size), but they are run in parallel.

Are the OE batteries in the Jeep poor quality? Would an auxiliary battery made by Odyssey improve the system?

From what I've read, the ESS battery does more than just operate the start/stop function. If that is true, then I would think the extra capacity would be a good thing. That's assuming that both batteries are good quality batteries.

Deleted almost two weeks ago. Removed the aux battery, taped the leads, and pulled the fuse. Aux battery is currently tied up in my basement. It might be dead by now actually…

No issues so far.

getting ready to do the mod, was going to follow this post and pull fuse 42 as well. Hopefully i can remove all the dead cables to and reduce the mess of wires there.

I recall a post a few years back where someone did the same thing and had pictures

my big confusion is some folks talk about jumping n1 and n2 and the diagram in the link you are bridging n1 and n3.. SO what is right?
