Yeah that sounds terrible. My steering isn't great like my other cars but my JT isn't that bad. My dead zone at the top of the wheel is probably 2° - 3°. So it's less than 11 - 1

@HWKIGRL I would agree, if I move my wheel to 1°-clock we're steering right, move it to 11°-clock we're steering left. (actually it responds before 11 & 1 position

It just needs that constant steering input to stay straight.

I think I am going to install the synergy brace too. I'm shy of spending $250 and having no improvement.

@Scrubb84 should I install the brace?

@Factoid I'm thinking about just doing the brace, no steering stabilizer shock. But I'm not convinced my JT has a problem, it's just not good steering you can hold at 12 and go straight like my cars

When I use steering input to correct the drifting//walking I feel like I don't over correct and I don't have to keep correcting my over correction like you. I just cannot hold the wheel at 12 and go straight like my AWD, FWD & RWD cars.

I do stick to what the Mojave review said as true for my JT
IMO installing the brace can only help. In my case it didnt help, the steering box fixed all of my drifting, wandering, deadzone, & bump steer. But I do feel better with the brace on anyway.

I think we have very similar experience with our steering. The over correction only happened at the beginning when I was getting used to the steering. Not so much anymore

Would you say your new steering is better than what @basicGlad has in his video?

Per the video...looks just like how my 3rd box was. Compared to my first 2 boxes with 4+ inches of play it was almost good enough, UNTIL I drove one with a good box again. Now I have none of the side to side like u see in the video.

So you have no dead zone at the top of your steering wheel?

Are there any aftermarket steering boxes?

I believe I have on of the good boxes (just lucky I guess). I can stand outside my vehicle while it's running, reach through the open drivers window and turn the steering wheel while watching the LF tire. The smallest movement of the steering wheel translates to tire movement.

Correct. This is how it is supposed to be.
As far as aftermarket boxes...the only one I know of is PSC, but thats $2,400 of overkill unless ur going with 38’s or bigger tires. If I was rich I would have done the PSC overland set up from day one.

Which is how it should be, Jeep Thing or not. I know my old Wrangler had no slop in the steering.

Damn, now I kinda wished I didn't asked :CWL: well my dealer told me the play I had was normal. Even test drove an identical JT to mine and it had the same amount of play. Not sure what to do at this point.

So I'm guessing even the most recent Gladiators hot off the line have bad steering boxes? Or was it just the early models?

@TrainMan
First gladiators were delivered April 2019.

Someone else here said the part number change was just publicity. What date did the part number change?

Where is it written? I'll try check mine.
