I got 4.10 gears on my Max Tow and it feels perfect for 35's to me. I'm averaging between 18.5-19 MPGs and I live in the foothills/Piedmont section of North Carolina so I encounter rolling hills. My buddies got a Overland on 35's and he is getting about 16mpgs average on 3.73 gears and he complains about not seeing 8th a lot. Mine drives and rides so we'll I'm going to 37's when my 35's wear out and I'm not considering a regear when I do.
I really don’t get why I’m only getting like 15.8-16.7 mpg on my stock mojave, in Piedmont Triad, NC … that’s commuting to office 12 miles, 50/50 hwy/ city

Not sure. Unless I sit with the truck running for a extended period of time I'm consistently over 17+

I'm in the western end of the VA Piedmont. 21 Mojave / 2" AEV / BFG K02 35's
I get 18 without even thinking about it, but if I think about and mind myself a bit I get 19.4 average.
I do not do much city driving where there's a light every block though. Mostly two lane at 60.

That's where I was at when I had the 35 BFG KO2's installed. Could get it close to 20 on beach trips.

From what I've researched on the internets, for the 8 speed automatic, 4.88s. Any deeper you'll have trouble overtaking other cars at highway speeds above 65mph because the automatic transmission will not down shift when you punch the gas.

Also you can do the math. The ultimate goal is to run bigger tires and maintain stock performance.

New Tire Size x Old Ratio / Old Tire Size = New Ratio

35s w 8 speed auto on my max tow. Perfect. I get 8th gear on the big roads. 17 MPG combined and 20 MPG on the big highways. That auto trans was a selling point.

315/70-17’s here. I can feel the difference on 4.10’s vs. the stock 285’s. I don’t think it’s worth regearing at that point right off the bat, as:

1. You might want to wait and make sure that you won’t want to lift it and/or move up to 37’s, and

2. While you can feel the difference (I genuinely don’t get how people think it feels stock, acceleration wise)…I don’t think it’s worth going to the expense to regear at that point, as it’s not that bad.

Normally I would say 4.56 and 35's are good, but I don't think it's worthwhile to pay to regear if you are only changing 1 "Jump" (3.73s to 4.10s, 4.10s to 4.56, ect...).

running 35's and 4.10s I wouldn't mess with it, especially you have any thoughts of going to 37's in the future. I"d prepare and do 4.88's or 5.13's at that time.

I feel like 4.56 gears and 37's would be perfect considering how well mine does on 37's with 4.10 gears, especially with the 8spd. Haven't seen anyone do that yet because most jump straight 4.88 gears. I don't plan on running anything larger than 37's and I don't tow over 4,000lbs normally and that's only a few times. With the max tow, I feel like the 4.56 would give you the acceleration back and be perfect for passing on the interstate or towing. I know many have said the 4.88 seems perfect but I'm always wondering if those 4.56 gears would put it at the sweet spot.

Ditto what Uparms said. As long as you calibrate the tire size, 4.10’s and 35's work well with the AT.

I'm on 37s with 4.88 and I feel like 5.13s would have been a touch better, but not enough to worry about unless I go 40s and then I will be building axles anyway. 8th is really tall below 70. I think 4.88 would be good with 35s, but I probably wouldn't regear until 37s and go 5.13. Depends on your usage, but I prefer to be a little overgeared vs undergeared.

It will still downshift. It just won't downshift as often which is good, they shift too much when geared too tall.

I have a stick shift JTR with 37s running 5:13 gears. I live in a moutainous area and I am super glad I went with 5:13s over 4:88s. If you are going to invest the money to re-gear, go with 4:88s or 5:13s.
Note: I have never heard anybody say, "I wish I went with 4:56 instead of 4:88"... but, you always hear people say the opposite.

Max tow with 35’s everything else is stock, I don’t really go highway but maybe once a week and average on the dash 18.6, live in upstate ny where it’s moderately hilly, any rd where I can get 55-60 she is in 8th no problem, still is plenty of passing power when needed on actual highway, when I drive with a lighter foot I’ve seen over 20mpg on the average, and my truck has constant 150-300 in bed depending what tools I need for work that day
