Also to note you can way overfill these and sometimes full is really only 3/4 tank. The level sensor is terrible.

I wonder how much of that is due to crystallizing on the float switch (if that’s what’s used).

I was trying to figure out what the difference between urea and “platinum” urea… ?? only major difference is platinum claims to not crystallize… ??‍♂ Is this true? I have no idea…. But for $6 more a jug I don’t mind.

As far as consumption we are averaging 1 gallon every 1k miles.
Consumption is really going to depend on driving habits…. So there can be too many variables to really say this or that….

Pretty sure the platinum does have additives to try to prevent crystalization. Eitherway keeping the tank as full as possible and using your vehicle will prevent problems. Def really cannot sit long term especially in a hot fuel tank on a jeep.

See- there is the challenge…. Using the def so it doesn’t sit and breakdown (or whatever you want to call it) and yet maintaining a full tank to prevent crystals. ??‍♂

Hopefully the recent Supreme Court ruling against the EPA will open the doors for deletes. (Seeming how we are the only country that enforces this nonsense…. And before Anyone chimes in with Europe blah blah…. Really do your homework. Their emissions requirements “laws” allow manufacturers to circumvent emissions if damage to the motor can/will occur…. We learned a lot through dieselgate and VW….. turns out everyone was guilty… ?? BMW, Mercedes’, Chevy (opel), the entire lot… same scam. Only issue “America” required the reflash that actually utilized the equipment….. funny how since the software update for the two tdi’s we have (2013&14) both have had the dpf replaced 3 & 2 times…. And economy dropped frommid 40’s to 29!!

Also- I am all for “clean”, but I find it hard to believe that all of the mining required to obtain the metals that comprise of the emissions system components…. (And repeated mining for replacement components) compounded with decreased fuel economy, and increased wear on other components (turbos etc), and now production and shipment of urea everywhere…. we are truely cleaner with the components “required”.
Before that can be flipped… a diesel compared directly to gasoline (power for power) is still cleaner.

mic drop. End rant. ???

So im 1,600 miles less than you and have consumed 17.85 gal, you have used 7.5 gallons (assuming 2.5 gallon boxes)... I wonder to what extend living in Denver (5,000ft affects consumption).

I took the Jeep in for an oil change and told them about the consumption vs the supposed 10,000 miles per tank of DEF... They plugged the jeep into he computer and get no warnings or anything.

I guess thats another reference point, oil life should be 10,000 miles and it lasted 8,000
8,000 vs 10,000 mi expected oil (80% of expected)
8,0000 vs 45,000 mi exprected DEF (17% of expected)
What are your driving habits? I go through DEF like crazy on my Ram 3500 when towing

Live in Denver, go up to the mountains only on the weekend. Gets driven to/from my wife's office 5 min away. No towing.

Chiming in on this....I was wondering about the "platinum" piss water myself. the makers claim its got some special goo that helps coat the internals of the gov parts bullshit to help prevent soot buildup. dunno if thats a line of crap or what, I will admit i was guilty and got some at the beginning after i first received the Willys, thinking im gonna save this thing and maintain to the max. now its like, whats on sale for piss water.....:jk:

On my side I bought 5x2.5 gal at Home Depot blue def thing cause that was the lease expensive and worried about some shortage or whatever at this time. Will worry about premium pee when I’m done with that already. ??‍♂

Shelf life is at least 1 year. I have had my Jeep for 1.5 years and have gone through over 25 gal... If they sold a 20 gal bottle I would buy.

I've been keeping my DEF tank on the low side and only filling for an extended trip since our weather is 105-113 right now thinking that cant be good for the life of the fluid. I store the fluid in my shop bathroom so if stays between 60-85 for the most part during storage.

Still about 800 miles per gallon unless towing then she drinks a lot more.
