Diamondback cover adjustable support.

With my diamondback I have had some issues with it being tight on the tailgate, due to the the tailgate trim being slightly taller than the bedsides. This is more of an issue when I have my RTT installed (especially since I install it farther to the rear).

To open/shut the tailgate I would have to slightly push up on the tent, to take some of the weight off. This was made even worse when I have the RTT deployed (off the rear).

So I decided to add a support between the bed and cover. Right now I just did one in the center, but may decide to put one on each rear corner. Basically just took a load bar, and cut it down in size

It’s a standard package they have for Tundra’s I believe. This is what the spacers look like.

I just got my kit in. How did you get the bed cap off? Also did you follow the tundra directions for placement or kind of go in your own pattern all the way across?

Also their customer service is great. simple photo of the leak and they sent me a new seal as well just from a quick look they could tell.

There is a Gladiator disassembly video on YouTube. Basically i used a couple flat head screwdrivers and lots of careful leverage.

For the pattern, I made it up. I extra reinforced the points where the vises sit to eliminate as much of the “sinking” in the middle as possible.

Thanks, I will look up that video and try my trim removal tools first on this.

The middle is pretty terrible for me so it will get most, but I plan on getting the front and back as well since I do load the top occasionally. Though most of the time the weight on there is my kids sitting on top of it at home for some unexplainable reason, lol.

lol. Probably when they jump on it. Other times I think they somehow think it is a cool spot to hang out.

Did you end up installing the shims?

I’ll be doing this job soon for my HD and am curious if the trim removal tools did the trick or not.

Also, any other tips/advice?

They worked. Biggest recommendation would be to check your bolts after every 50 miles after the install. They get loose.

I did and they helped a lot. Honestly I wish they had included just a few more of them because I still have a slight sag in there.

Trim tools helped a little but honestly what worked the best was a long narrow flat head screw driver. It was able to get under and push the tabs in.

By the way why are you getting rid of yours? If I didn't have one I would be all over it for the price you have listed since it also includes the racks installed.

Weight.

I’ve been adding lots of parts for overlanding and I’m getting scary close to being over GVWR with the family and gear.

We had it weighed over the weekend and we were like 10lbs under on our way home from a trip.

If my gladiator was more of an around town truck and less of an adventure truck I’d keep it. After a year of using it, I can testify that it’s a great cover.

Unfortunately I’m at the place where I’m spreadsheeting weights and making trade of decisions between steel and aluminum parts.

I know the likelihood of being pulled over by a cop and forced to weigh my truck is astronomically low, but it will still keep me up at night :P Rather give up a couple nice things and lose the stress.

One woman’s loss is someone else’s treasure if anyone wants a cover!

Just ordered my Diamondback HD yesterday, I assume it will be a while for it to be made and shipped and with VT winter coming on, it may be some months before I can actually install it, but I am really looking forward to it. Was on the fence between SE and HD, figured that in the long run I will be glad for the sturdiness and extra cleats of the HD. Buy once, cry once.

It isn't too bad of an install you just need a little bit of good weather time wise and you are good. I actually got mine installed right before it started raining. Was crawled all up underneeth making the adjustments staying dry, lol

after watching for other options in the year i've had my JT, i think the DB HD is still the one i will choose. i had the SE on my ridgeline and enjoyed it. my biggest gripe would be that it wasn't quick to take it off, store, and reinstall...especially alone. i never took it off much, partly because i didn't need to and probably more so because it was a bitch to.

i am happy there seems to be black hardware now, i had to paint mine to match.

i would like a stronger one this go round because i want to put a rack on top for a tent and other things eventually. just gotta find two grand somewhere to get it.

the smooth black is probably what i will go with, it looks so slick. had the black linex before.

I can say after having mine for a year, no regrets on it so far. Anything I would have needed the bed for fit with it flipped up partially or I just strapped down right to the top of it.

Only thing I wish is that I was brave enough to install the new rack option they have, but after having paid 2k for the thing I am way to afraid to get a drill anywhere near it.
