Has anyone installed an aftermarket diesel filter after the pump to save the engine of the pump has catastrophic failure?

Just over 18,000 and enjoying the smile the turbo diesel puts on my face every time I drive it.

Borrowed my brother’s F-150 FX4 last week and wow, even with the 3.5L eco boost that thing felt like a land yacht after having my Gladiator for a year.?

I traded in my F-150 Limited on my Gladiator, and while I appreciated the towing capabilities of the brother’s ride, I’d have a hard time going back to full size rig again.?

Definitely didn’t miss the 14.5 mpg vs my eco diesel’s 22.4 mpg either, (and I did complete oil/filter/engine air filter change for him for using the truck and ran 91 octane through it for multiple tanks…couldn’t have helped out the mpg any more than I did?).

Just over 35k miles. I have used Hot Shot Secrets EDT since day one. Recently I have been adding extra LX4 from Hot Shot Secrets. I just changed out my fuel filter for the (3rd) time and saw metal in the bottom. I took it to the dealer and asked if they can replace the pump before it completely fails, he said "No, it needs to completely fail just drive it". I am now communicating with Chrysler since my 2021 and vin# 1C6JJTBM2ML538262 is in the current recall.

It is still running perfectly and my fuel rail pressures look good.

I love this truck and hate sitting on a ticking bomb.

If this is real, you will be the first cp4 failure with fuel additives.

Please keep us informed!!!!

49K, no issues. I’m on my fourth fuel
filter. All clean so far. Started using EDT once I heard about the recall. Planning on 20K in travels in 2023, so here’s hoping it all holds together until the new pumps are ready.

If you have this in writing and something happens the amount of liability the dealership AND Jeep are under is huge.

The reason for the recall is it has been reported to cause the motor to shut down due to the blockages as I’ve understood it…causing a safety issue. Otherwise the recall may never have been issued.

So there’s a “SAFTY RECALL” and the dealership is saying let it fail and place your safety on the line instructing you to continue driving it??? If you don’t have this in writing…get it in writing!

I have a service appointment at the dealership on Dec 12. They are going to repair recall Y81 DEF Inducement. At the same time the service manager said they would pull the metering unit on top of the CP4 and look at the screen for metal. I wanted a dealership to do this so it can be documented. With what I saw in the bottom of the filter canister, this is the next step to diagnosing a failing CP4. Using the ScanGauge III my fuel pressure and fuel rail pressures still look great. Around 4500-5000psi at idle.

If they find metal I will again ask them to replace the CP4 before it fails. If they tell me to continue to drive it I will ask them to give me that in writing.

I will continue to update this thread as my progress continues.

To be the devil's advocate:

42k-ish with no issues and running just about anything you're not supposed to in the tank. I've run her on 4 year old syphoned diesel out of my dead trucks (in winter), fuel reclaim tank (aka old trans oil, waste oil mixed in from failed heui's), couple extra gallons of PS911 in a pinch when i almost ran dry... and still going strong.

Though I'm religious in my 15k filter changes, I think this one might just be (un)luck of the draw for failures.

This is likely the best article out there I have seen that shows the breakdown, parts, failure mode. This image tells the full story.

Having anything that helps the piston / roller always stay in contact with the cam is important. Fuel Lube + no air in the fuel is key.

The thing that drives me crazy is the design of this diesel pump is to puke metal savings directly to the pressure rails.

It's obviously not a life long part.... Ensure that a failure doesn't result in additional component damage! I really wish we had a bypass kit available.

I'd much rather drop and clean the tank vs replacing injectors, lines, etc.

11k with 1 oz edt per tank from the beginning. No issues. Just decided to try 2 oz for a while to see if I notice anything.
