Is anyone else experiencing their JT bottoming out on roads that other cars (trucks, JL Rubicon, anything else really) don’t have problems with?

It happens even with undulations in the road, not just pot holes and railroad tracks.

I have a JTDR, stock suspension.

Bad shocks probably? Are you carrying crazy weight like steel bumpers, RTT, winch, etc.?

Post photos. Are you sagging on level ground?

exactly...we need some more info here...but no, it would not at all be normal for it to bottom out in stock form under "normal/average" road undulations with no major load.

When you say bottoming out, do you mean that the jounce bumpers (rubber bump stops) are fully compressing in their cups, allowing metal on metal contact? It's normal to have contact between the jounce bumpers and the pads inside the lower coil on big bumps.

I don’t have any heavy upgrades yet. Just a couple of KC lights and a radio currently.

I think it’s the bump stops hitting, but it hasn’t happened on my previous vehicles or our JL.

It’s the extra weight of the diesel.
My JTDR will hit the bump stops on things the wife’s QX just soaks up.

the diesel adds, what, ~400lbs more?

How many inches between the bottom of the bump stop and where it hits?

I was thinking it was the extra weight of the diesel too, but didn’t they put heavier duty springs and shocks to make up for that extra weight?

my F-150 3.0L diesel didn’t hit bump stops on the same road.

I guess what I’m I hearing you saying is I need an aftermarket suspension lift?

The diesel I test drove did the same thing. This is why I went with the gas engine

That is pretty pathetic if it is bottoming out on just normal/average road undulations with no extreme weight in (or added to) the vehicle. I have read that the diesel added about 400 pounds to the front end but you would think they installed heavier springs to offset this. Perhaps there were/are some screw ups on the early models and the wrong springs were installed? It would be interesting to have another diesel owner (that hopefully has not observed this issue) take the same pics and measure the distance between the bumpstops and the "pad" they hit.

Mine does not bottom on simple road road undulations.

It will only hit bump stops on dips where the sign says “20mph” .
I can go 25 just fine. 30mph and I touch bump stops.

wife’s QX is 30. My kids Xterra is 30+, but I lifted it. :)

I’m no expert, but those photos look like the coil is compressed under the weight of the diesel. I don’t have stock suspension anymore or I would check the length of my springs for you to compare to a gasser. That’s got to be the wrong coils for that model....

You can tell that the factory installed the wrong springs on his Jeep by looking at a photo of a tape measure which isn’t even placed so that suspension ride height can be accurately measured?

Renegade, how would you suggest I place the tape measure?
