My current vehicle is a hybrid it's a smooth transition so I don't mind it. However, I don't know how it'll feel on a gladiator with manual. But I also don't mind pressing a button every day

I have said this before, but then again this whole thread is a repeat so here goes again. I am getting the m/t which makes me even more excited for the ESS. As I understand it, ESS won't kick in as long as you are holding the clutch pedal down. So bumper to bumper traffic, no ESS. In order for ESS to work, you have to take it out of gear and then release the clutch pedal. I translate this to mean, I control when ESS engages and when it doesn't. I plan on leaving it on and using it for stop lights, but maybe not those "optional rolling stop signs".
I'm not sure if Jeep is the same but in my Chevy ESS is automatically disabled in stop-and-start traffic and parking lots.

Lol. I had a cool thing on my bike when I was a kid, called a kick stand. I used it occasionally, but really didn't need it. Then I found out it was removable. I don't think I ever thought about it again, once it was gone. So I'll be disabling mine and will never think about ESS again!

yes should have had both. Did you drive the 3.6?
The sales guy said it was the 2.0 and said either the 3.6 or 2.0 comes standard, you get to pick. Lol. For $1000 more you can have the 2.0, standard pricing.

When I said the 2.0 had both I was talking ESS and BSG (etorque). Sorry not a very clear post.

If you remove ESS from a Gladiator, does the skidplate scrape on the curbs when you olly over them?

lol, no i understood what you meant, the eTorque system aslo does the ESS thing, makes sense.

I just thought it was funny that, "The sales guy said it was the 2.0 and said either the 3.6 or 2.0 comes standard, you get to pick. Lol. For $1000 more you can have the 2.0, standard pricing."

Same salesguy that told me to look online to find the hybrid warranty info on the Pacifica before I bought one 60 miles away from him.

Having a manual JLU I do indeed like the ESS. The control aspect and the better gas mileage is great. The wife on the other hand doesn't like it. So to each their own I guess?

I just test drove a JL Rubicon with 4 cyl. Did that have the ESS and etorque? I assume yes?

Silly question, but the sales guy was awful.
It's a ONE or THE other . . . 2 completely different systems, though they both turn off the motor when stopped, that is where the "sameness" ends . I just don't have it in me (tonight) to play professor-eTorque so I suggest rather than be possibly ill-informed, YouTube can Show & Tell you all you need to learn . . . really . . . it;s painless, and you can sip on some "coolade" of choice at the same time ! :like:

edit-- JL 2.0 Turbo ONLY comes as eTorque with the 48V power pack system. the JL's with 3.6L do NOT offer the eTorque - YET ! I'm hoping they will with the arrival of the 2020MY JL's in September ! My other prefered option over the JT. Wish the JT would offer the eTorque as an option upgrade over the ESS 3.6 !
Again if confused just google either or both; NEW RAM V6 eTorque - or - Jeep JL 2.0L eTorque or just either using the term ESS ! Hope that helps

Funny you bring that up. I basically have always owned manuals, but I'm pretty sure I'm going Auto for the JT. I really don't like the tall MPG oriented gearing of our JLU. It's maybe better with 4.10 gearing in a Rubicon, but the 6th gear is almost useless. To use 5th you really need to be going close to 70. The 3.6 is a decent engine but the low end of the curve just doesn't have much for you. Now I have had turbos and V8s for the last 12yrs so I might be biased. With the difference in towing it's an easy decision for me to go Auto*. To be honest even before the towing penalty I was likely going auto.

*I actually think the BSG could really wake up the manual if they pair them up. So I could change my decision....

I have had 2 trucks and 3 jeeps that were manual, but the more I think about the JT, the more I'm thinking automatic. I'll just keep the CJ-7 around for my manual thrills.
