For the record, PCM removal on these is a PITA. DON'T attempt unless you have patience and an assortment of tools.
I 100% whole heartedly disagree with this. All you need is a socket wrench, and an extension. There are 3 or 4 bolts and that’s it. It does help to have a magnetic socket or just pick up a collapsible magnetic wand because the two bolts on back side of PCM between battery are hard to get to. You can even stick some tacky/sticky stuff in the socket just so the bolt stays in as you put the socket back there to screw the bolt in.

Takes me all of 5-7min to do it.

I have an assortment of tools and patience, seems I’m clear to pull the PCM but one thing I’d like clarification on @Keith Diesel (great to hear cloning is now offered btw) is if the tune can reside on the clone. Based on your recent note above, could the process go as follows:

1. PCM is pulled and shipped to y’all.
2. Stock PCM is cloned to another unit.
3. The newly cloned unit is tuned, leaving the stocker stock.
4. Original PCM and clone are sent back.
5. We run the clone, at which point we can optionally swap back to stock if desired.
6. Fee wise, it would be the tune cost + $750 for the clone.

Does that all sound about right and if so, do you have a few PCMs in stock to this this now?
The stock is cloned over to the new PCM and that becomes your backup/dealer PCM you put in for visits. The original PCM is what is tuned bc it has all your driving data logged already.

That is all correct. We have a few ecms in stock for this venture.

Right on, I took that post more like don’t attempt unless you’re an adult with something more than a Swiss Army knife ; )

Call GDE. They can set up a clone ecm if desired now. If you need an ecm as well, the cost is $750. You still need to mail in your stock ecm for the cloning process.
Oh really? That changes the metrics quite a bit. lol I ordered a Banks Derringer last night, I wonder if I should cancel.

Or maybe it would be good to still have the monitor capability of the iDash? Is the PedalMonster needed with the GDE tune? I ordered that also.

So just to clarify, I can buy a blank ECU on the market, send both the new blank one to clone (for a fee I assume) and the stock ECU in the truck to get tuned, then they mail both back to me? Since it's a new truck not yet delivered, it would be good to know before hand as if that's a capability now, I won't trade in my current vehicle and drive that while I am ECU'less on the Jeep.

Keith what would the price be just for the clone? Last time I looked up the ECU on open market it was like $280, wondering if just worth going with yours.

Of course you should cancel the Banks stuff, it is not comparable to the GDE tune. Correct on mailing both ecms in if you have a spare, they are hard to find these days. The clone ecm and setup for your vehicle is $750. Subtract $300 if you supply the blank ecm.

@Keith Diesel any chance a California tune will happen? Long shot I know but wanted to ask.

Most likely not, it does not make fiscal sense to spend $100,000 to certify for one state. Once bitten, twice shy.

Totally get it, thanks for the reply.
CA does make things hard, and expensive

couldnt you have a stock ecm and tuned ecm and just swap when its time to do emissions check?
GDE isn't going to mail a tune to anyone with a California address. GDE will do everything in their power to follow all state and federal laws.

I don't fault them for that. It is harsh out here! If you are in CA you cant even see the details on the website. Had to read up when I was in AZ. I think they are going to verify where your VIN is registered not just your mailing address. Maybe I will register it at my folks place in AZ one day.

Easier to get a Banks Deringer. Not the same, but can help with a little perf and should also work with a regear.

That's what I would recommend doing. I like that GDE has a 49 state legal tune. I wish CARB wasn't greedy so that my fellow brothers and sisters could partake in the tuning greatness.
