I've owned a Mojave for 11 months. Unfortunately I totaled it in an accident. I'm looking to purchase a new Gladiator and am considering the diesel option for fuel efficiency. I'm looking for REAL MPG numbers on the diesel from someone that owns one. My Mojave got 15-18mpg (City or freeway). Sticker states 17 city, 22 hwy. I could NEVER get it above 18 mpg. Since the Mojave doesn't have the diesel option, I'll have to go with the Rubicon.

Does anyone have the actual mpg for the Rubicon diesel option. (NOT what the sticker claims)
I'd like to know
- Daily all round driving MPG
- Freeway only driving MPG (NOT towing)
- Freeway driving pulling a travel trailer (Approx 5,000 lbs)
I live in Northern California, in the foothills at approx. 2,300' altitude.

Thank you

Highway, unloaded, except for misc personal belongings (<100lbs) with winch and bumper, bed cover, everything else stock: 24.5 best and that's holding it at 2k rpm @ approx. 76mph

So for the third time now major failure of the diesel exhaust system and had to drive 65 miles to closest dealer. They did a forced regen and put me back on the road in 4 hours. Since then with a full overland load and averaging 82mph on cruise. Here is what it looks like

Stock diesel Willy’s. Almost all driving in Florida unless noted. 24 fill ups and 8k miles. Real data, non anecdotal.

Now that chart is not only believable but also very accurate. I too have found that the MPG displayed on the dash is higher than the actual.

So many claims of high MPGs here seem to be bogus, especially for the non-stock JTD's

Haven’t had the truck for that long (22 JTRD) here is my data. It’s all accurate beside one or two fill ups where I had to guess the odometer from a missing picture in my library (usually take picture at the gas station). Peak are usually long highway drive days. I unfortunately do a bit too much of city / traffic in highway for my taste but I try to get it to do some highway miles as much as I can on weekend
Ive been going to a gas station that I believe has so so diesel so I’ll try to stick to shell & chevron for the next 5 fill up or so to see if it makes any difference. Suspecting the other one is high moisture and not that efficient. I’m also introducing hot shots starting next fill up.

21 JTRD Going on 15k miles with 37s/ 3.5" and my average is UP to 19.2 (all hand calculated.)

EcoDiesels DO NOT LIKE TO IDLE IN PARK. I believe this is what was killing my MPGs (probably with regens.)

Ive heard that’s because when it displays 0 (at full stop) it actually counts as 0, skewing things down a lot. Only wait to get it reliably is calculating from what you actually consume.

Overland with 3.0 here. Drive about 57 miles highway during weekdays, city driving on weekends. Was using FillUp app pretty religiously to track from 9/21 to 6/22, then kind of let it slip. Imported the results to Excel, here's a screenshot, average in bottom left, 24.6 MPG. No towing, and a couple of long trips in 11/21 and 4-5/22.

Did you catch this part:
Yes and I’m answering to your idling part. I’m not implying you didn’t do the right thing calculation wise. In the contrary my statement goes in the same direction, calculate it, don’t trust the computer.
We’re not the only two in this forum and other may find this useful.

I've got a long drive coming up this weekend, I've been meaning to hand calculate it.

But for reference: Only have 2500 miles on mine so far. 37s and stock 3.73s, reported by the on board computer:
19.5-20.0 mpg daily commute, side streets
23.5-24.0 mpg highway ~70 mph
