Gladiator fuel overflowing.

Just a simple gasoline drain hole to the ground on the back side of the fender for when it overflows. Not a vent.

I'll add my experience. 2020 Gladiator Overland, 3.6L. 30k miles.

If I fill until the pump clicks, it overflows every time. Initially it was just occasional, but now it's every time, every gas station. Even if I slow it down to fill at a trickle, when the pump clicks, it burps gas out. Incredibly frustrating. I've never filled past the first click with it. No CEL/codes.

Stopped by the dealership and asked about it. They claimed they'd never heard of that type of problem, but that I was out of warranty and diagnosis would start at $185.

Mine has overflowed from day 1.

Mine has done it twice now, both times last week, at different stations where it's never happened before.

I"m having same issue. Bought mine used about 5 months ago. Has happened occasionally. Did not happen first several fill ups. I have also noticed that since the first time it spewed gas, the gauge does not ever read full full. Even when i tried to top it off with pauses between. I got it with 16,000 miles and now sitting at 22,100. I'll try to check the vent hose connections.

I had the "gauge never reads full" problem. There is a TSB for that. TSB 14-006-23. They replace the fuel pump module and the fuel tank to cure the problem.

How far down does your nozzle go into the filler hole. I could only get mine about halfway in.

I have a diesel, but I took out the discriminator so I could use high flow nozzles.

I have never had your issue.

Make sure the nozzle is completely seated and that the gas handle is making a good seal.

If not, take it off auto when you hear it gurgling and hand pump tbe rest.

This is super annoying guys I hope someone can find a solution soon. Gas spilling all over the side on every fill up will destroy the paint eventually.

it’s mind blowing that a 60+ thousand dollar Jeep has this problem.

I’ve been just adding gas until it’s almost full to avoid the issue.

I accidentally spilled diesel on mine and panicked.
I did some research,
and it and most of the concensus was gas/diesel would not hurt auto paint due to the high oil content and low solvent content. *There were some articles that said it would. So just consider the source.

I'm no expert, do your own research.
For peace of mind, I did wash the spill area when I got home.

I've spilled gas on paint before, I've never had an issue. Motor cycle guys have this issue all the time.

That all must apply to diesel - there's nothing to seal on the gas versions. The nozzle (tube) goes into the filler neck and the spring prevents it from going too far. You insert it until the spring on the nozzle stops it from going farther, and there's no seal or seat of any sort of kind. It's wide open to fuel kicking back. There's not even any sort of a shield on most, but if there was, it wouldn't prevent the gas from kicking back and down the fender. There just isn't any seal - and of course there can't be since air has to get out fast or pressure will build up and really cause issues, so there can't be any sort of a seal. Air has to exit.

Don't pull the trigger a second time if you have a problem with overflowing. There's an sticker in your gas flap that says exactly this

Ohio must not use any of the 'environmentally friendly' gas nozzles that have a cap that goes over the fill tube to minimize the escape of fumes.

Gotcha. I see what you mean. I should of clarified, I didn't mean "airtight" , just inserted all the way to the vapor boot.

I'm no gas pump enthusiast ? but I thought the back pressure is what kicked the auto off ? I'm not sure exactly how it works, but the nozzle has a sensing unit along with working with vacuum somehow ?‍

Concerning the diesel, there have been several threads about removing the discrimator. (If that's the correct terminology).
Sometimes when off the beaten path, when you can only get to truck stops that cater to 18 wheelers, the nozzles are larger than they are for regular autos. They wont fit with the discriminater in place. They are set up to flow really fast.

I had the overflow problem with a vengeance on my 2020. I had the filler neck replaced under warranty. But even with the new filler neck, it will overflow if I don't hold full-on fuel delivery until it shuts off. Counterintuitively, trying to slow the fuel flow into the filler neck as the tank nears full results in overflow, as does fueling from a pump with low delivery pressure. But I don't have any issues if I hold the trigger on the pump handle all the way down until it shuts off, and it is a pump that is flowing gas quickly. YMMV, of course...

Since I first got my truck I never had any issues with overflowing. The area that I live in there's about three stations that I use on a regular basis (Petro-Canada, Costco and Ultramar). A few months ago several Ultramar were recently bought out by Esso and new pumps were installed. Now every time I fill up there it overflows like crazy and this goes for all other Esso stations I have tried, might not all be the trucks fault. Anyways just my two cents.
