It has happened the last 5 times I have filled up.
No topping off, pump shuts off and gas shoots out.
Ive tried all three notches on the pump handle, makes no difference.
It may be a colder weather thing? Ive had mine since May and had no issues until the last couple months.
I mentioned this a few pages ago. The recall, at least with my 2007 JKUR back in the day, was to replace the vent line to a larger one. Zero issues after that.
Wonder if the cold temps caused the vent tube to collapse. Would be nice to have a copy of the JK TSB to show dealer to back up a need to check/replace the vent tubes when bring it in.

Sounds like it needs a larger breather. Not enough air is escaping while it's being filled.

Just got to 6500 miles and sure as hell, when filling up fuel burps back all over me when filling. No warning, just SPLASH!
Same fuel station, same fueling procedures. Nothing has changed, other than fuel splashes out now.

I noticed at my usual gas station the nozzle doesn't fit all the way down into the filler neck. The tip hits a bend in the neck which prevents it from going farther in. Leaves a gap near the splash guard. I've done 3 fillups now and haven't had the splash problem but wondering if this is why others might be seeing it. Has anyone else noticed the nozzle doesn't go in as far as does in their other vehicles?

Mine doesn't go all the way in either. But no splashes. When it cuts off, I take it out.

I've got just over 6k miles on mine and it just started doing this 3 fillups ago. Before that, it never splashed out.
The last 3 times when the pump shuts off, I get out to see gasoline running down my fender. :headbang:

Mine just did this again a couple days ago. 40 degree temps, 1900 miles on it. Its done this several times now, enough to become annoying. But not every time. I took a photo and noted the temperature.

Anyone got a decent response out of FCA on this through a dealership or @JeepCares can you help? At this point I'd like to know how we get enough momentum with FCA for a recall and fix of the core problem. With all the tech in a 2020 vehicle it is ridiculous the engineers didn't know how to properly vent the fuel fill tube.

rant on///

ok...this genuinely pisses me off.
i've an '06 LJ that does this. i've said it's a jeep thing, they screwed this one up, meh...first world problem.
and here we are with a design 14 years later and it's doing it again. this truck aint cheap, and yeah, this is a first world vehicle with a freaking 3rd world design. FCA, FIX YOUR SHIT!

i forgot what the "logic" was but there was never a recall on the TJ/LJ's regarding this problem. i never fill the tank. i guesstimate how many gallons i need, is the tank 1/2 full, 1/4 full and put in gallons accordingly. this rubi is going to be over $50K and they think it's ok to dump fuel on my $50K truck's paint? how about i agree to pay $50K but only send ya $47K? think that'd fly?

FCA...FIX YOUR SHIT!!!!

sorry folks but i had to get this off my chest, i've been dealing with this stupid flaw for 10+ yrs. (i bought the LJ used)

...rant off.

Legitimate gripe. It's freaking ridiculous.

For what it's worth, I have a 2005 TJ my son drives. Pervasive problem on those models too. There is a fix on one of the jeep or wrangler forums where you replace the fill tube, I did this to ours it works. Access it through the wheel well. The replacement part oddly enough is a GM part. If you can't find it let me know sure the info is still out there I did this in 2012. SMH my new JT does the same.

On your TJ were you able to determine what was causing the overflow? Was the original tube collapsed or twisted?

Also just started running into this. 3500 miles or so on mine, and it's sporadic. This means one of 2 things:

Either I forgot how to pump gas properly after 15 years of doing so.
or
Weather based impact.

It was significantly colder than any other time I've pumped gas (About 35 degrees when this happened)

I would suggest we start posting meaningful and consistent data.
Temperature
Handle lock or being held by your hand
Pump type the wide vapor catching type or old school this steel tube
Number of gallons being added or how empty the truck was

What else would or could matter?

That's interesting, I would think the pumps would be pulling slower in cold temps, it always feels this way in winter when I lived in NH. Maybe the station just topped off their tanks and the pressure is at the highest?
