IFS is not bad, I ran that setup for over a decade and there are things it does better than a live axle - but off road articulation isn't on that list.

If this rumor is true (which I doubt) hang on to your trucks, they just became collectibles.

Folks made the same claim back in 2016 about the "next generation Wrangler" will have IFS.. Which is the JL we all know and love. And it obviously doesn't have IFS.

Retired. Beach bum.
I don’t have any deserts in PA and I don’t want to spend $10,000 to lift my Jee.

Steering stabilizers are never the cause or the fix for DW. Good luck.

Every time the wrangler is up for re-design the idea of IFS gets floated out there. I remember it with the JK, then the JL. Just history repeating itself.
It's because the auto-blog and YouTubers will lie their assess off for views, shares, and comments. They know anger is a strong emotion and it's weaponized to create engagement - people need to learn to recognize it and not feed the trolls.

The same thing happened every year after the Xterra was cancelled, "content creators" knew there was a following for that model and people missed it. Every. F@#$^in'. Year. There was another "XTerra to return!" story with the same crappy renders someone did that didn't even come from Nissan.

I used to help mod a Reddit community and I got so sick of that I would just ban accounts that posted it. We even had it in the rules that any posts linking to stories with that specific render would be banned without warning. It was always the same three blogs posting the story, and almost exactly one year apart - most the time they just Ctl-C, Ctl-V last years BS.

So if everyone could please stop feeding these content trolls, that would be great. Check your sources!

Every time an automaker re-ups their trademark on a name, like Chevelle, same crap goes around lol.

I generally consider Motor Trend a decent info source. Maybe I’m wrong? They are not as good as they once were but they still seem reasonably accurate and respectable?

Apparently they aren't. They were always a rung below Car and Driver, but this puts them on the same tier or lower than Gawker. Even Jalopnik's writers back in the day cited their sources for major scoops like new models or major design changes.

When they were just a printed rag laying on your doctor's waiting room table, maybe.

There's been unsubstantiated internal leaks saying the new Wrangler will be IFS. Even the guys at TFL hear leaks that eventually prove to be true. As with all leaks, sometimes we don't get the entire story. Let's pretend that Motor Trend is reporting correctly. Perhaps the next gen Wrangler will have an IFS, but perhaps there will be a few trim levels that will offer a SFA. I'm not going to knock Motor Trend until we can either prove or disprove their reporting.

You really think they'll double up on the different frames needed, run two lines and so on?
It will be 2 different platforms in many respects, not just a different front axle.
If it was one line people would need the equipment and training to install both axle and suspension types. The IFS would slow things down substantially unless it was a sub-assembly in the frame building.

Insiders have already said that the new Dakota is expected to share its frame. I think frame sharing (badge engineering) is to be expected.
