The key is to let off the throttle. Here's an example of what happens when towing up a long steep mountain grade at 35 mph. The coolant is 215*F and the oil is 230*F. If you notice, I'm running in 5th gear at 1,800 RPMS.

Our trucks run hotter than that on the flats not towing! Letting off the throttle and running up the hill in with the tcase low range isn't really an option.

In the flats not towing mine always runs in the 215 degree oil temp range. Towing my 4,500lb camper it depends on how fast I’m going. If I’m trying to run in the 70-75mph range I see oil temps in the mid 240s, staying around 65mph (which I usually do) oil temps stay in the mid 230s. Obviously not climbing any mountains or experiencing ambient temps consistently above 100 degrees in the Midwest but even in rolling hills this has consistently been my experience.

Ya, I would never tow my RV over about 65mph unless I had a 10+ tailwind. Just too much punishment and heat load going on there. I'm kind of glad we don't have 80mph speed limits here in CA, because it would suck to be "that guy" on the road.

Agreed, I usually stick around 65 as well when towing. Engine feels like it is hardly working and everything easier to control at that speed. Not to mention higher mpg and lower Def usage when not pushing the engine so hard.

This is what my dealer puts in the eco d .
It's the wrong spec'd oil for the gen 3 engine, otherwise, it's not the end of the world. There are others that are running T6 in their gen 3 without issues.

Hopefully she won't blow . I was able to get the Oil and Filter to do 1st and 2nd oil changes myself from the dealer and it still shows as being dealer serviced at 8300 and 16000 . The 1st time I got mopar oil and filter and second time got the Rotella and mopar filter . Any super bad things going to happen with the T6 or can I leave it . TIA .

Anyone know anything about the Mobil 1 diesel oil? Seen it at the local Advanced Auto the other day. I use their 0w-40 Euro oil in my Nismo.

If it really bothers you, then you can take it back to the dealer. They mistakenly put the wrong spec'd oil in your engine and therefore would be required to remedy their mistake. If it doesn't bother you, then you can leave it. I know a guy with a 2020 EcoDiesel that ran T6 for over 100,000 miles before he knew it was the wrong spec'd oil. It was dealer serviced the entire time.

Only SN is required. Ms rating is not mandatory for warranty. This oils been around forever but I think I'd rather play with T6 or the Napa euro. I'd trust this more than the QS I'm running now ?

Any input on this oil? It is 5w40 and says it is API SN. It is the only oil that is in stock right now around me and i am past due by a couple hundred miles for an oil change.

Go for it. SP is the latest and greatest API rating which is better than SN (which is also still a current rating). SN is the minimum requirement and this more than exceeds it.
