It's been a few months and I regret trading in my Gladiator.... It was a 2020 Sting Gray Sport S Max Tow. My first new vehicle ever.
I was overly impulsive after having to have the cams, rockers, and lifters all replaced at 52k miles.... I got a used 2021 Subaru Crosstrek Limited, and lost my a** on the trade in. But I was upset at said warranty work being ridiculous at just 50k miles. Seriously miss my truck. Really upset at myself and my lack of patience due to the deals last month as if I just would have waited a few months I could have probably traded it in at a Jeep Dealer, gotten more in value from it, and been able to trade up into a 2023 diesel....
Right now it's a few years of eating crap until I'm not 18k underwater and I'm getting a gladiator back. Sadly the diesels won't be around but I figure I'll try for a Mojave (and hope that they bring back Punk'n as a color....)
Anyways thanks for listening to me rant about my own stupidity.

That would suck having to get warranty work after 50k miles. I don't think you are good fit for a diesel though given all the headaches people have with them.

Na don’t feel bad man, seriously don’t. I and honestly many would have the same reaction. I know I don’t buy new vehicles to have issues, I would expect being that its new or newer should be issue free and reliable. Maybe small dumb stuff sure but not the entire top end of an engine. I have Jeeps from the ā€˜90s for that headache. If I want issues I’ll just go buy another certified shit box from the ā€˜90s. If’n I was in that boat with that kind of failure and then find out it’s not a that uncommon of an issue and has happened before I’d send it packing too. Making payments on a turd is no time to stare into a crystal ball.

It happens, I think the 2020 engines had a few problems that might have been addressed in the following year, diesel is probaly not an option a few years from now , but picking up a nice used one might meet your needs and get ya there a year sooner. Regrets are something you move on from and enjoy the new ride for the reasons you choose it. Few years goes by fast and who knows what options there will be or even it a Gladiator is around. Take care ,you can hang out here , once a Jeeper always a Jeeper!......Jack

I’m kind of in your shoes now. My ā€˜21 max tow is at 30k and at the dealer for a single cylinder misfire…I am suspecting it’s the rocker but I dont know that yet…if they have to do open heart surgery on it the next dealer it may see is a Toyota dealer…I love the thing but what I need most out of it is to reliably get from point a to point b. Engine issues on a 2.5 year old vehicle ain’t gonna cut it.

I had a Subaru Outback before and that thing ran and ran…I drove it into the ground and when I finally got rid of it at 218k everything still worked…it just leaked every fluid you could put in it and needed a new cat. Nothing $4k couldn’t fix but it was worth basically nothing so I finally let it go. The AWD system on those things is great…mine had the 4 banger so it was an tid bit underpowered.

What headaches. Mine has been trouble free for 40,000 miles.

I had the work done at 80,000, others had it with under 20,000. Many don't have any engine issues. We still drive out Gladiators.

True…I haven’t made up my mind yet. I just wonder what the long term effect of the valve train eating itself is on engine longevity. I typically put 150k miles on a vehicle over 10 years before looking for a new one.

I've got a 2020 and so far so good at nearly 50K. If it needs any kind of valvetrain work, that 3.6 is gone and a hemi is going in. Agree with other posters that I'd avoid the diesel like it was the bubonic plague. Stellantis has a bad rep for engine quality. The hemi is nearly 20 years old now and seems to be their best powertrain and will be gone soon.

Many issues with the Diesels ( all brands ) is they need to run miles for the emissions systems to work properly. Too many short trips and idling will cause problems.
