So, will every one get the body rust / corrosion?

Just how widespread / common is this issue of door hinges, doors, hoods and tailgates corroding under the paint? (Perhaps this belongs in a different forum but I thought it more of a general experience / opinion topic). After reading other forums and visiting FB pages dedicated to JL's and JT's, I'm seeing so many complaints that I'm beginning to wonder if it's inevitable for all of us.

What do you think? Overblown and exaggerated? Just as certain to occur as tire wear?

I think its a minor thing. Even Toyota get shit for failing paint. Jeep just gets more shit then everyone else because it feeds the narrative that anything made by Jeep is a POS. You get a factory 5 year warranty to cover all painted body panels against corrosion and 3 for unpainted. Considering how easy it is to disassemble a Jeep I wouldn't even worry about it. Body shops get so much cheaper if you just bring a single piece rather than a full car for respray. and they can perfect color match off of a good section of your car. I took in a tailgate that got brake fluid spilled on it, and paid cash. 2 days and 350 bucks later. perfect paint matched tailgate. If your hinge starts to corrode. just unbolt em and take em in. I have a buddy in the collision repair industry and he loves Jeeps for ease of repair.

I think it depends.

I have few bubbles on my hinges and a chip. Will remove and have them repainted eventually after touch up becomes too much. BUT... I drive a long commute in the winter on slushy nasty roads. It sort of expected for me. I have a chip I need to repair on one hinge because slush stuck then frozen and it took a minor bubble off that causes a big chip. I'm far outside mileage-wise to have it fix at dealership, but it's an expectation in my area. But giving it wash in winter helps prolong it from happening so took 130K and nearly 4 years before it happened.

Being as my JT is spending its life out in the desert, rust is not even on my radar.

As long as Jeep knows they can get away with it, then yes, everyone will get fucked. I can hear all the fan boys now, "Not my Gladiator", yes, your Gladiator too: It will fail prematurely. With the manufacturing tech available today, these powertrains should last a minimum of 300,000 miles. Now your paint is falling off after a couple years? This is a result of Jeep/Stellantis not giving two shits and a jar of cold piss about adhesion to quality control. This is what happens when a company promotes people for diversity, or buddy clubbers, instead of on merit. They either don't know what QC is, and/or don't care, as long as the cost of repairs is less than fixing the problem. They are a pathetic company, and a vapor of what Jeep used to be.

Don't forget about potential underbody rust issues as well. My Mojave was starting to have issues after a couple of Winters and 7,500 miles before trading it. For me, it was mainly surface rust with additional blistering around the frame holes and in rear near tow hooks. Some rust bubbles starting at hood hinges as well.

My co-worker that owns a '21 JL has the same underbody issues but quite serious according to him. Still well under body corrosion warranty protection. He was told by Stellantis that they would not cover it under warranty because his Jeep was made for the Canadian market? Never heard that one even after being in the business for thirty years.

Premature rust is concerning, but more so the lack of Stellantis support for warranty repairs.

Been like that for over a decade of FCA/Stellantis not giving warranty to Canadian market vehicle reimported back to the USA.

Back in the 2010's or so, there was a time with the USD to CAD exchange rate, it was cheaper by many thousands to buy and bring a Canadian market vehicle back in. To curb that, FCA put a stop to honoring warranties on Canadian market vehicles brought into the USA.

58k miles. 2020. Both hood hinges have bubbles. Salt air. Not unique to jeep here. I will just replace with aftermarket when they get really bad. Not worth the drive to the shop to fix

I think this will be a much more geographically disproportionate issue.

3 years now in central Texas and not a spot of rust. I imagine the folks living up north and on the coast will have this issue in the greatest numbers. But then again that would probably be enough evidence to Jeep that the issue is the salt and not their paint being the problem.
