Today, I was following my JT and noticed about 3-4 bounces after crossing railroad tracks. I have a Smart cap on the bed with 200lbs of gear that rides all of time. I also have a winch up front. I don't think I'm going back with Fox shocks. What other options are there for a Rubicon with no lift? I saw that Bilstein shocks are a good choice, just not sure on the weight I carry.

The Bilstein 5100s are a good budget shock. They will be firmer than stock, but not harsh. If the springs are doing their job the shocks should be good to go. If you want adjustability cost will go up.
I was just wondering about the extra 500 lbs that I carry, the springs are getting a workout for sure. The Fox shocks are not working.

Thanks for the input.

Grab some nice 1.5 inch springs made for extra weight and some Teraflex adjustable or similar adjustable shocks, do it right once.

I would look for a mono tube design that is rebuildable.

I run a fiberglass leer topper, decked system, and gear. Have had 5100’s on for 30k miles now, rides great with the weight. 👍🏼🍺 for a cheap shock they get the job done, firmer than Fox… but handles well, and isn’t “too firm”. No bounce.
I do have a diesel, and run diesel Mopar lift springs.

I suggest that you weight your JT, front and rear separately, then send emails to Fox, Bilstein, Walker Evans, King, Carly, etc.

Tell them about your JT. Such as cargo, weight, winch, etc. tell them how it is normally driven.

Then, see who replies by just blowing you off, and those who actually take notice and offer real solutions.

Personally: I prefer Fox because I have had good experience with them for a long time. And I have even had inexpensive Ranchos last 10 years. Bilstein's are usually valved too hard, but that is only in my experience. I never could justify the expense of Kings. I have Fox on my JT Mojave (stock 2.5 shocks, incredible), and Fox 2.0 on my F250 Super Duty with Carly springs. I have custom Walker Evans on my Jeep YJ crawler.

If i had to quick buy... I would go Fox off of the retail shelf without hesitation. Walkers and / or Bilstein's second. Kings if you're made of money. Rancho if you're broke. Carly is weight / use specific and they are dialed in.

I think Fox, Walker Evans and Carly will reply seriously to your email.

Good luck. Jeep on.

I didn't want to hear that. My son said the same thing. My thoughts were that the Fox shocks failed because of the weight. I like the idea of putting the JT on a scale. Bilsteins seem to have a backorder problem at the moment. I couldn't find any locally and very few on line.

Been extremely pleased with my Eibach’s they are good from 0-2”of lift. Allegedly not quite as stiff as the 5100’s never had the 5100’s to compare to. They are priced similarly. I received a bad one that had zero resistance, after a quick call to customer support and a video showing the issue I a replacement delivered 2 days later. Their support was great.

I've been happy with my 5100s. I also have a topper but it isn't as heavy a the SmartCap, nor do I carry a bunch of gear - but the 5100s for sure made the ride more enjoyable compared to the stock shocks.

I have 5100's on my truck. I just went up to Atlanta Motor Speedway and back with all my camping gear, plus my usual loadout - bed was totally full with my normal chest tool box full of gear, all three of my water proof camping cases, a full 70 quart cooler, Gazelle tent, a folding bike, etc. Truck handled the weight great. No swaying, bouncing, etc.

There is certainly better options out there, just depends on how deep your pockets are. My stock shocks (Mopar Max Tow parts) had all started leaking fluid at 27K miles and they handled the weight fine for my tastes, but they were on the way out.

Night and day difference between my old Fox shocks and the Bilstein 5100s imo. I have around 200-300lbs worth of gear in my bed most of the time and the shocks were a major improvement. They are firmer but not harsher. My truck used to get a little squirrelly going over railroad tracks with my Fox shocks but not with the Bilsteins.

I just need to find a set now. I can do more research later. 5100 Bilsteins 0-1.5 are hard to find at a reasonable price. I haven't looked real hard this morning.

Did you check with Northridge? They are a big Bilstein dealer.

Another place to check with is Kolak Performance.

Should be around $100/shock.

I bought mine from Kolak for $84.75/each, but that was almost 4 years ago.
