Not the thread I pictured myself posting when I picked up the car from the dealer in August 2020, but here I am.

I bought the wrong rig, thats it. My sting gray Rubi is an excellent vehicle. Decent driving on city streets, easy to commute in, handled road trips well. Reliable, fun, simple etc.

The catch, I travel up and down mountain passes 30 times a year. Shifting this thing in and out of 4H when the roads go from snow covered to clear and wet is silly. The truck handles poorly at highway speeds in 4H. The heater is atrocious to deal with. Fuel mileage is unbelievably bad for a V6, though I don't drive enough to really care about mpg.

Will be looking at selling this thing and grabbing a RAM 2500. Maybe test drive a TRX just for S&Gs.

Have only respect for this forum and Jeep folks altogether. Wish I could find a way to appreciate the Gladiator as much as it deserves.

I definitely wont miss waving at people 20-30 on my trip to the grocery store here in Issaquah. Too many jeep owners here. Yeesh! :)
I understand. My Gladiator is my second vehicle - for weekends and fun trips and off roading and top-down sunny days and such. I love it, but it would be a bit more trying if it were my DD and I put on a ton of miles per year on the highways. Good luck and hope you love your next vehicle.

Liquor Attorney. So not all bad...
swapping a 4x4 with bad gas mileage for a bigger 4x4 with also bad gas mileage solves nothing.

Sounds like you want something with AWD. I suggest a Honda Ridgeline.
Cybertruck. Never have to shift in to AWD again- there are motors in each wheel. And the heat from the batteries catching fire is handy.

But seriously - to the OP - you do you . I think you kind of invited a bit of trolling on yourself but I respect that everyone has different needs. I live in flatland with a lot of snow - shifting into 4H at highway speeds (up to about 50ish) works fine for me - love that I don't have to be in neutral (I have the 6MT) - just let off the gas a bit. Now- when I replace my wife's Volvo XC90 with a JLUR auto I'll get her the selctrac transmission with 4H auto option and she'll also be getting a diesel because she does a lot of hiway driving (she's a realtor and lists properties all over western metro Twin Cities).

I did not know 4wd auto was an option on the 2500, I doubt the HVAC is any better probably the same system. What 2500 gets 20mpg?
On the 2500 4wd auto not an option. 20mpg downhill......... if u buy a gasser less than that

Sounds like the snowflake needed a Prius...

I traded in my 2017 2wd GMC Canyon for my JT, and I can tell you that no V6 truck gets better mileage than ~20mpg... I’m getting 19mpg in town with my JT...

I drive mine everyday and love it.
I used to when I was younger, but long distance trips would do me some damage. Driving 2,000 miles this week but not in the JT.
I do smile every time I walk past it in the garage when I do not get to drive it.

Lots of hate. The JT isnt for everyone, i love mine and some days i think it isnt for me. I have driven my JTR 6mt in some pretty solid snow/ice with some very strong winds and its not the most confidence inspiring drive. I can understand why a heavier vehicle would call to you, but in reality I think the road feedback the JT delivers is what you are picking up. Once you get used to it, its nice to have.

i came from a few full size GM trucks and a 18 tacoma 6mt. Id say the 15 gmc “ felt” the best in bad conditions, but it has the . The tacoma was great with AT, i put MT’s and then it scared me to drive in FL thunderstorms.

using 4h, i like the road feedback the JT delivers. I like solid axles. I kept it to 45 through the passes and hit some tough spots where id need to slow.

if you have Mud Terrain, try swapping tires and see if that changes things for you.

remember, if you post a good bye most people think you want to be talked out of it.

I get it...you want a Sport S Max Tow so you can build it better and cheaper than a Rubicon. ;)
