Keep your receipts from dealerships using T6. I questioned them since it was my first oil change and they said it’s what The manufacture is informing them to use. I’ve used it for years in my Dodge so I’m really not scared of it.

You shouldn't have any problem - however, a word of warning -
You schedule through a person who handles scheduling in most cases.
Even the techs don't know what the parts department has or doesn't have until they find out they don't have it. They may know what's normally stocked or what isn't, but when you schedule, they don't go check with parts to see if they have everything needed.

For filters and oil - the shop would or should know, but that is the shop, not a service writer or a scheduler.
I have found that if I go in and talk directly to a service writer I often get in sooner than if I call and talk to the person who schedules things.

They'll have what they need - or should. But don't count on not getting a call meaning that they do.

Each dealership is a bit different as far as who and how scheduling is done and if anyone bothers to check ahead of a vehicle driving into the shop whether or not they have parts.

You also don't know how many oil changes are taking place between when you scheduled and when you take your truck in. They don't go back and grab one and hold it for you.

Don't hoard please :) You don't even have your truck yet
;) Better get them now. Might not be available later with the way things are going. LOL. No I usually have a stock of filters on the shelf for all of the vehicles I own. I primarily run Wix or Napa Gold filters. If and when Wix starts making the filters for the JT then I will switch over to those.

Good advice as usual. I sometimes call the parts department first, and prepay for counter pickup parts. Then just hand the parts to the service advisor. I then don’t even schedule the appointment until parts has confirmed my parts are waiting. I get a look from service, but it avoids the days of ā€œwaiting for parts, sorryā€ stuff.

So I’m sure some of you are aware that I’m working on installing an insane diesel bypass filter. Here is one more reason to go this route. It requires a gen two filter. I just picked up the gen two filter for 6 dollars…. Yea 6 bucks.

T6 is NOT approved for the 3rd gen EcoDiesel! Dealers are misreading/understanding the TSB which is for the Ram and GC which is the 2nd gen. T6 doesn't meet the specs. Took over an hour but I got my local dealer to admit I was right after and re change to proper spec.

my advice is print off the approved list stickies and bring it with you to the dealer. You'll find some correct oil.

Well can we briefly discuss what microscopic additive is in the oil that makes ms-12991 so special over another, while maintaining the SN rating? The owners manual says these two specifications are recommend, not required, so as long as we at least stay with the SN and higher rating we should be good, right?

How many folks here have used secondary oil treatment additives like Lucas, Amsoil, or the good ol' Stay Together Please, knowing the manual for whatever you're using it in probably says not to.

Is this becoming a mountain out of a molehill thing?
