If you'd rather be a victim, you do you. I'm not even religious, I just disagree that Jesus wanted you to be a willing victim and never defend yourself. There are scenarios like I mentioned previously where violence is the only answer. The only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun. Not sure how a religious man would reconcile the idea that they never commit violence but they'll call others with guns to do it for them? Don't be the aggressor. Don't start the violence or attack others. But even God would want you defend yourself and your family. Even if he wouldn't I don't care. In my opinion that's my duty as a man, husband, and father. Your safety and that of those you care about is your responsibility period.
Frankly, the Bible actually seems to support self defense.
if a thief is caught breaking in at night and is struck and dies, there is no bloodguilt.
There are many examples of fighting in defense of your own family.

disciples carried swords - In the garden of Gethsemane, they had swords. Swords in the first century were used for self-defense.

Turning the other cheek isn't about letting yourself get smacked around. People don't take it in the context of the times, of the social norms of that time.

There's nothing said against self-defense or defending one's family.
It's only about vengeance..........

Don't be a prick and go after people that piss you off - but it's ok to defend yourself or your family from such pricks.

You can stop someone without killing them. Kind of the whole point. I know in America the go to is to kill first and make an excuse for it later but that’s how we end up with these situations.
That is completely wrong. The goal is to stop the attack. Sometimes the attacker dies, but that isn't the goal.

I always hark back to Hunter S. Thompson in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas when his attorney turned into a crazed beast under the influence of drugs and Hunter backed away from him with the observation that at that point in time his attorney WAS the drug, and "you never turn your back on a drug".

There are some people who are intent on doing harm no matter how much you do their bidding.

I remember seeing a video of a poor person being robbed in a convenience store, and the robber kills them anyway.

Completely unnecessary, but they do it anyway.

I had to sell it because I just didn't feel comfortable on it anymore.
My bike got run over in a parking lot. Same day I got it back on the road, a girl ran a stop sign and forced me to jump a rather aggressive curb (had to lift the front end). No damage, but I've barely ridden since then.

It's not like he's going to respond? The idea that threads are limited to only the initial question or post is just not how forums have ever worked.

Uhhh….…one shot to ‘stop’ or ‘injur’ might not work. Your attacker could be so pumped up on drugs/adrenaline…. By the time you realize you need to take a 2nd shot, you’ll be dead.

Shooting to ‘stop’ carries a lot of legalities. You could be sued by every member of their family until there’s nothing left.

There’s one book I highly recommend EVERYONE read….. I’ve read it twice and need to read it again. It’s that good…. It talks all about self defense, when / how to use it and the legalities behind it (after it happens).

It is more of a social commentary thread that got started rather than a technical one. Those tend to tend to get off topic rather quick.

To go off on a different topic, since seeing your mpg in your signature was so much higher than mine I've tried to see what I could improve on my 17's without making driving boring. I've had a couple of tanks at 18.5. I think I was going to break 19 on one, but then I had to haul some stuff down the interstate.

The zombie thread that won't die!

"Everyone is a good guy with a gun until the day they're not a good guy" and it's a good thing they have that gun on the day they decide NOT to be a good guy. Can you imagine the lack of attention they would receive if there wasn't a body count during their "make me famous" moment.

Bad people are bad people all of the time.

Do good people snap? Of course, but that is exceedingly rare.

Or to put it in numbers, there are easily over 300,000,000 guns in the USA.

If good people acted as you claim we would already all be dead.

I read recently that 80% of all violent crime is committed by less than 10% of the criminal population.

The very population that the government constantly sets free to do their mayhem.

I support freedom even if YOU think it's suspicious. I support judging people on their merits. I support legal immigration, and the wife of 25 years will be the only judge of my "gender" or whatever you children study about and I'm pretty sure she's happy with it. Off to the mall I go.
You have gotten kinda defensive about seemingly minimal things. You made some comment about anti-gun-rhetoric in one of my posts, when really I was just saying I don't want to be involved with trying to control crazies.

Seems like you enjoy seeking out conflict. Just my armchair analysis, but you do you boo boo.
