I'm not necessarily talking about impulse buyers. I agree that they are the customers that the dealers love to prey on - and I am not one of those customers. Before this Jeep, I typically bought brands that don't even offer the option to special order anything, so your only option is finding what you want on a dealership lot. Once I decide on a vehicle I'm interested in by doing research online for weeks, I go test drive it - and then if I decide that's definitely what I want and I'm ready to buy, I want it ASAP. I leave and go back home and get online again looking at every dealer's inventory within 100 miles or so to find the exact color/options, etc. I want (or as close as I can get) for the best advertised price - and then I email/call various dealers to get their "out the door" price on a specific vehicle before deciding on one and going in to the dealership to finalize the deal. If I lived in a CARB state and wanted to buy an ICE Wrangler/Gladiator, I wouldn't even be able to test-drive one locally - or buy one off the lot - because there won't be any. If I go to the trouble of traveling to a dealership out of state to test-drive one, I'd likely just buy it from them - rather than go back home and order one and wait weeks/months for it. Again.. this puts dealers in CARB states at a disadvantage and makes it a pain for people wanting to buy an ICE Jeep. Sure, if you're already familiar with Jeeps, it's not a problem to order one sight unseen, but for others, it's going to be a pain - which I suppose is Stellantis' strategy to sell more 4xe's anyway. If that's all that's available on the lot, they'll certainly sell more of them.

Look, I get it... we're headed toward electrification - and in a year or two this will be a moot point because that's all that will be available. I just don't think it's fair to the dealers or customers in CARB states for Stellantis to not allow allocations for ICE vehicles there while continuing to offer them to dealers in non-CARB states. If you guys are cool with it, great. Doesn't matter to me.. I have mine... not planning on buying another anytime soon, but if I do, I'm glad I live in a non-CARB state where I still have the option to buy one off the lot.
Where does Fair come into the equation? This isn't Kindergarten class. If you really want to complain about Stellantis Business decisions, buy stock and go to the shareholder meetings. Yes, it will have a negative effect on some buyers. The bean counters and lawyers didn't make this decision lightly. They know what sells where, and have done what they think is necessary to keep the money rolling in.

From a different angle, is this that far off from what manufacturers have always done?

I'm talking about how you can't get just one option on its own, you have get it in a package. But once you get that package, you MUST get this other package and you CAN'T get this other package.

So those who have always been particular about how their cars are equipped have always been hamstrung. Dealer ain't gonna have exact combo on the lot, and they're caught in the middle. Not saying I feel sorry for them, though.

Oh bullshit. Someone calls you out on your derogatory slang and you cower into splitting hairs. Give me a break.

This is the reason we have the No Politics warnings. It's always an "FJB" badge or someone talking about "Commiefornia," never the other way around. And when called out on it, it's always tHaT's NoT aCtUaLlY wHaT i SaId!!
You're being emotional and making generalizations about me that are false. Angry posts like this are what fans the flames.

Being logical, I never said that someone isn't a person. I mentioned observing people that ruin what they touch, and like being limited in their vehicle choices.

Moving on

Absolutely. I can't help but have an emotional response of disgust when someone refers to people (his fellow countrymen, no less) he doesn't ideologically align with as NON-PLAYER characters and then won't own up to it.

bean counters at "company" are no longer just profit driven. they answer to fund managers who are taking over the world with your 401K. you will drive the car when you are allowed, you will charge the car when you are allowed, you will only go as far as allowed, you will own nothing and be happy.

Test drive a used one locally..... Is everyone forgetting the millions of used cars that will be in the markets still? Chances are you can find a late model to check out unless its the first year on the new model... In which case I think we'd all be apprehensive about buying.

You're leaving out the fact that their hand is being forced by government mandates. This is not a pure market decision based on sales

Well, this has successfully turned into a dumpster fire of a thread...

Kinda impressed it took this long!

Yeah, I know... I'm sorry.

It just really grinds my gears when folks try to hide behind pedantics and semantics after being called out for using derogatory slang and/or slurs. If you're gonna say it, own it.

This is the issue. This is 100% politically driven. This is not sales declining in a state and a car company deciding it's no longer worth selling cars in that state.

This is never true. If you want discussions of reasonable length - there needs a “no politics” rule.

We can talk about the weather and hope it somehow addresses the issue, I guess. The problem, is that this is a political issue. Sure, it is only in a handful of states...today. This is being forced on all of us shortly. So how is it productive to have a long discussion without being able to actually discuss the root cause of the issue?

I have been in the first situation. The other driver’s insurance provided a rental.

I’ve felt the second situation, but went to bed and got up the next day feeling differently.
The mechanical failure situation is quite different since you'd have to pay for the rental out-of-pocket.

There's good reason to use the term NPC. When the public aligns their values with the values pushed on them by the biggest corporations through advertising and entertainment, it's just assumed that the person hasn't used critical thinking to gage a certain topic.

Yea you would. All that goes into the calculus of how much it costs to fix vs how much it costs to buy a new vehicle, etc. etc.
