Frankly, the Bible actually seems to support self defense. If you'd rather be a victim, you do you. I'm not even religious, I just disagree that Jesus wanted you to be a willing victim and never defend yourself. There are scenarios like I mentioned previously where violence is the only answer. The only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun. Not sure how a religious man would reconcile the idea that they never commit violence but they'll call others with guns to do it for them? Don't be the aggressor. Don't start the violence or attack others. But even God would want you defend yourself and your family. Even if he wouldn't I don't care. In my opinion that's my duty as a man, husband, and father. Your safety and that of those you care about is your responsibility period.
if a thief is caught breaking in at night and is struck and dies, there is no bloodguilt.
There are many examples of fighting in defense of your own family.
disciples carried swords - In the garden of Gethsemane, they had swords. Swords in the first century were used for self-defense.
Turning the other cheek isn't about letting yourself get smacked around. People don't take it in the context of the times, of the social norms of that time.
There's nothing said against self-defense or defending one's family.
It's only about vengeance..........
Don't be a prick and go after people that piss you off - but it's ok to defend yourself or your family from such pricks.
